I bet the drummer and the guitarist both had a great career after on their own
As peculiar as it is you really feel like you heard the whole sound of the album from the very first song. Variety and further exploration would have been appreciated. Also the fact that the one dimension it has is going as epic as possible, it really gets repetitive eventually
Striking a balance between making a fun danceable record and carrying a strong message is terribly hard. This album does it very well. Also, move on up
Fun record, Arctic Monkeys at their best, as they never were afterwards
After 16 years I have to say, I ended up listening to this album again an it holds up very well, I love how it is catchy and slightly unhinged at the same time
You don't even mind the 80s snare when the production is THIS Groovy. When songs like Soro and Sina get there they are infectious

In this album they even managed to write an entire song that doesn't sound like they just put together some cool ideas and virtuoso showoff shit. Their best album. Still barely decent.
It's not bad at all, but it's not great either. Even the singles grew on me after hearing them in context. At first I was really loosing hopes for the band's future as all the singles felt uninspired and by the numbers. Now I'm more drawn to think this as an akward transition that can really bring to great changes in the future and hopefully to a more mature use of the electronic elements that are the real weak spots of the album and feel often stiff and predictable.
