Surprised by how their debut EP sounds a bit better than their first album. Pretty fun.
Kind of a weird case where the vocals are insanely good but the instrumentals are not as impressive, it's usually the other way around.
Even though they are very growly and monotone, the vocals are still wild, they sound amazing and easily the standout here. The instrumentals were fine, I liked the melo-death influences.
Really fun and enjoyable progressive metalcore/deathcore album. Underrated
The album cover goes hard.
Much more brutal than I was expecting. While I think it's the weaker of their first 3 albums, it still is really fun and very different from them. I liked the vocals.
I wasn't expecting this album to hit me this hard. I had only listened to Dead Throne before and wasn't very impressed, but this is so much better and I'm surprised doesn't get enough praise.
While I've never been huge into MySpace metalcore, this feels somehow different, and I think TDWP have sort of managed to distinguish themselves from it. The clean vocals still are in the style I'm not a huge fan of with in this sort of metalcore, but it's nowhere near ... read more
Honestly crazy that this band isn't as well known. This EP really showcases what this style of music can be. Insanely atmospheric and stupid in the best way.
Can't believe I hadn't listened to this earlier. I loved The Satellite Years as well and this has pretty much the same powerful and emotional sound that I really fell in love with.
The vocals have so much emotion and passion behind them, and the melodic parts are beautiful. So underrated
This album has a special place in my heart; it definitely helped me get into this kind of music.
I think it has some of my favorite energy from this era. The instrumentals while nothing revolutionary, are incredibly fun and the riffs are some of my favorite. The only thing that really made me lower the score was Tim Lambesis' vocals. Not only is he a terrible person, but he sounds pretty rough and his delivery gets annoying sometimes.
I'm still not sure how to feel about this album; it is obviously of great quality and offers a lot of interesting sounds, but I just felt like it was doing more of what they did with the last two albums. Nothing wrong with it, but for their last album especially for a band like this I was maybe expecting something crazier.
It was awesome to see songs like Honeysuckle be reminiscent of Calculating Infinity though.
This band has an insanely impressive and unique sound that I hardly ever see replicated; Protest the Hero has to be one of the most underrated bands of all time.
Not giving it a perfect score feels wrong but I think it does drag a bit before the end, specifically with the two songs before the last two, but those two last songs are incredible so they make up for it.
Bloodmeat might genuinely be one of the best songs I've ever heard.
Deep down this is probably not that groundbreaking or interesting, but I just simply love this style and sound. The choruses and clean vocals really scratch my brain. The next album is definitely better though.
This was so much fun.
I never thought this style would be my thing, but I really enjoyed this.
I've been a Suicide Sielnce fan for a while, so I'm surprised I hadn't listened to this EP.
While it is pretty short, I think it's a great introduction for their sound, and definitely worth listening.
I think this band was surprisingly influential for melodic metalcore at the time; you can definitely see how mainstream bands like Bullet For My Valentine borrowed from this sound.
Underrated band.
Similar to other Deathcore bands from the time, Suffokate's debut is way more raw and unpolished than their later work; something that I don't think is a bad thing at all when it comes to this style of music. It actually offers a much more disgusting and aggressive experience that I can appreciate for different reasons.
Such a shame this isn't available in most streaming services.
I don't really know what to say about this album. This band has such an insane Discography, and has become one of my favorites.
Perfect mix of both the chaos and the experimental sound they're known for.
Might be really similar to other metalcore outputs from the time, but it still slaps honestly.
I think the clean vocals are amazing, but my main issue are the harsh vocals; they aren't too great.
Overall really underrated, and should probably get more attention.
I really think I need to listen to this album again, it didn't hook me as much as the other ones. I can tell it's on par with them, maybe I just wasn't in the right headspace.
I really like the atmosphere of this album. Melodic Death Metal is something I definitely need to check out more.
This kind of rawness and explosiveness just scratches my brain. I might be wrong but I don't see a lot of modern deathcore bands making stuff like this.
