The blend of melodic sounds and harsh vocals is my weakness, this album is beautiful.
Both clean and unclean vocals are incredible, particularly the harsh ones, they are less whiny than your usual post-hardcore vocals, and the cleans sound great.
I'm honestly surprised at how influential FATA is, Too Bad You're Beautiful and this album came out in 2001 and 2003 respectively and they sound way too good for the time, you can definitely see how bands like Underoath might've ... read more
Norma Jean has gone 4/4 so far, I'm genuinely so excited to check out their other albums.
Very similar sound-wise to Redeemer, but it does have it's own sound that I love. It ditches the sludge metal influence of the first 2 albums completely, and delivers their less heavy album yet, but I think it works perfectly, this album just sounds incredible.
This kind of melodic death-metal/metalcore influenced deathcore is just so cool, I wish it was more common.
I actually remember listening to Baby One More Notch a lot when I wasn't really into metal, this style is honestly pretty good as a gateway to more extreme music.
I loved the way this album sounds, the guitars particularly are so good, but I did notice how artificial the instrumentals can sound sometimes, it's hard to describe, maybe it's the production, but I just cannot ... read more
Surprised by how heavy this album can get, it sounds really great, especially the guitars, very clean and smooth.
A lot of people joke around about the vocals sounding like moans, and while I'm not particularly into them as much, the harsh vocals work really well, it's the kind of nu-metal that should be remembered.
What I'm most surprised is how popular this band got recently, and it sort of gave them a bad image, now people refer to Deftones as "baddie-core" and ... read more
After years of listening to a specific style of metal, it's so cool to actually listen to the band that basically invented and influenced every band I love.
I'm still shocked this album came out in 1995, this is what every band in the 2000s was trying to sound like. And while I might still need to learn to love this, I did like it a lot, and can definitely see why Death is THE death metal band.
It's been a while since I've listened to any albums, my earphones broke.
There is something about this era of metalcore I'm obsessed with, I was pretty surprised when I discovered this band recently, I thought I was done with 2000s melodic metalcore bands.
The guitars are awesome, the vocals are good, but the clean vocals were the weak point in my opinion, and I don't think the clean choruses are catchy enough compared to other bands in the genre.
I still enjoyed it a ... read more
A Day To Remember is a band I really struggled to get into for a while, and I think it finally clicked.
The blend of Pop Punk and Metalcore works wonderfully here, I'm usually not a fan of this style, bands like Pierce the Veil always came out as cringeworthy to me. Here they don't really take themselves that seriously, and the style just works. Feels very juvenile in a good way, manages to balance heavier and lighter sounds really well, and to my surprise it has a lot of heavy ... read more
I like the melodic approach, while still maintaining the technical and heavier style of Rareform.
If testosterone was music.
I loved this, the slow groove of the album feels like it's punching you in the face. Very different to other styles of metalcore.
I like some songs but overall I'm not sure I'm into this specific style, a bit too corny for me.
After Mirrors, I was pretty excited for this, but I'm not quite sure why it didn't hit me the same way.
I really liked this album, but I don't think it hit me the same way Tear From the Red did. It has more melodic moments, and I actually think those are some of the best parts of this album, the production is very much improved, and I'd say the vocals are a standout, features some of the most beautiful clean singing in the genre, the harsh vocals are also amazing.
Maybe the style feels a bit different, I'm not really sure why I didn't love this album quite like the last one. ... read more
What was going on with christians in the 2000s
This is August Burns Red magnum opus, they managed to craft one of the best melodic metalcore albums to ever grace the scene.
It's ABR at their most creative. They never have been famous for having hooks or catchy choruses, here they deliver songs so well structured that it works, you don't need a main chorus to base your song around, they just let their energy flow and it's so amazing.
I don't think it's a hot take, but ... read more
Woah
A step up in every way from Oh god the Aftermath, and I adored that album, it was so chaotic and energetic, but I do think it sounds pretty rough most of the time, mainly due to the vocals.
Here they fixed all of that, it's like a mix between Bless the Martyr and OGTA, improving and polishing the sound from these two.
I'm not really sure if this is the same vocalist as the previous album, but he sounds genuinely amazing here, the performances all around are so good and ... read more
I really enjoyed this. The vocals are perfect in this album, the whole thing just sounds so polished. I'll definitely have to re-listen to it eventually, I feel like I missed some stuff.
I hate giving a band like Killswitch Engage such a low score, they're arguably the greatest metalcore band of the 2000s, but they really have played it too safe on their last releases, and it's the most apparent here.
This is just a nothing album, I cannot differentiate the songs at all, it's the same sound they've been using for a while, and after 4 albums I think I'm just really tired of these. I wouldn't call this album bad, it sounds fine I guess, but ... read more
