MGMT - Loss of Life
75

VERY GOOD. Loss of Life is another great Psychedelic/Dream Pop effort in the dynamic duo's already impressive catalog. The record is varied and detailed yet thoughtful and cohesive; Loss of Life cultivates a psychedelic yet deeply mature thematic experience.

Mk.gee - Two Star & The Dream Police
60

GOOD. Two Star & The Dream Police is a light and fun guitar-driven Bedroom Pop record that is heavily carried by Mk.gee's charismatic vocal performances. Without his unique charms, this record would be completely unremarkable, so your mileage may vary if you don't vibe with him as much as I did.

Helado Negro - PHASOR
65

GOOD. Helado Negro's PHASOR is a beautifully bilingual Indietronica record with a smooth if a little sleepy listening experience. While it is somewhat easy for all the tracks to blend into one another, it's just as easy to get lost in these tracks as it is to lose track of these tracks lol.

Yeat - 2093
80

AMAZING. If I had to describe this record succinctly, I would say the record feels like what you would get if you asked Yeat to translate Travis Scott's Rodeo from English into whatever the fuck Yeat's got going on. While there are a few more low spots on this record than its generational predecessor, it is no less forward-thinking and thematically cohesive than Scott's breakout record.

USHER - COMING HOME
40

POOR. This was honestly a lot better than I thought it would be lmao. If I had to describe Usher's latest effort in a short phrase, I'd call it Mid-Life-Crisis RnB. Great record for sex-pests pushing 55, but it's a skip for anyone with more modern sensibilities.

35

BAD. Musically, Zara Larsson's Venus sounds like if Meghan Trainor took one year of vocal lessons and listened to a Rhianna record before recording her next album. Conceptually, Zara Larsson's Venus sounds like a minstrel show about white women.

Declan McKenna - What Happened to the Beach?
55

FINE. What Happened to the Beach was (perhaps unfortunately) my first Declan McKenna record and the only effort I've heard from him except his viral single, Brazil. That being said if all of his other music is closer to What Happened to the Beach's quality, I can't wrap my head around his positive reception. This record was pleasant but uninteresting Indie Pop, with almost nothing in the way of new or compelling ideas, lyrically or sonically.

Brittany Howard - What Now
70

VERY GOOD. There's really not much else to say about a record like What Now. If you're looking for a fantastic, soulful Neo-Psychelicadelic experience, look no further than Howard's sophomore solo effort.

Chelsea Wolfe - She Reaches Out to She Reaches Out to She
70

VERY GOOD. Chelsea Wolfe's She Reaches Out to... is a collection of solid if not particularly inventive tracks that all reinforce a dark, yearning aesthetic. What sets the record a cut above most is the sheer variety of soundscapes that Wolfe manages to work into the record without ever breaking the thematic cohesion of the project.

45

POOR. While some of West's production on this record is pretty good, VULTURES 1 is as clear a declaration as any that Kanye will never be a good rapper again. His atrophied lyrical and vocal talents are impossible to ignore. Even his daughter is outclassing him. Ty Dolla $ign's contributions are acknowledged in this sentence.

Scrim - lonely boy
35

BAD. Scrim's Lonely Boy takes after the bulk of Rage records, being bloated, uninspired, and painfully white. The release of Rich Minion was supposed to be the death of the genre, but the talentless and desperate continue to clog the annals of Rage with dime-a-dozen beats and queasy, lethargic vocals.

J Mascis - What Do We Do Now
55

FINE. While it's absolutely nothing new under the sun, it's always nice to hear J's voice.

meth. - SHAME
65

GOOD. Sludge Metal band meth.'s SHAME is a strong record that captures some of the magic of the genre's birth without being a direct rip-off of Swans' Filth. While it does sit comfortably in its own identity as a more scathing strain of Sludge, it doesn't push the genre in any new directions.

Mario Judah - Endure
20

VERY BAD. lol. lmao, even.

Kirin J Callinan - If I Could Sing
65

GOOD. Kirin J Callinan's If I Could Sing is another solid entry into his quirky Art Pop discography, but it's no Bravado.

The Last Dinner Party - Prelude to Ecstasy
75

VERY GOOD. The Last Dinner Party's debut effort, Prelude to Ecstasy is a well-crafted combination of Glam, Baroque, and Chamber Pop. It's dressed in an antique aesthetic, but the lyrical and tonal sensibilities of the record couldn't be more modern. While some of the sonic decisions feel a little more rehashed than remixed, it's still an overall inspired work.

Solok.Os - CRIMINAL MINDED
45

POOR. Any way you slice it, the majority of the world is still well behind The United States when it comes to Rap and Hip Hop. While there's nothing glaringly wrong with the record, CRIMINAL MINDED is a medley of very tired sounds and flows given new life in a new country.

WateRR & Wavy Da Ghawd - Washed Ashore
55

FINE. WateRR & Wavy Da Ghawd's Washed Ashore is an earnestly strong Abstract Hip Hop showing on a lyrical, instrumental, and vocal front. That being said, the record is gratingly static once it has established its sound, and goes on for too long to excuse the lack of variety.

Amsterdam Klezmer Band - Bomba Pop
55

FINE. A fun but uninventive record, I don't feel like the Amsterdam Klezmer Band's Bomba Pop does anything I haven't heard before in the genre or even stretching out of it. While the record is admittedly far more than a collection of old Folk standards, none of the modernization decisions struck me as remarkably inspired.

The Amazing - Piggies
50

FINE. A cute but uneventful record, The Amazing's Piggies may be a soft Singer-Songwriter record that is indistinguishable from the mountain of other soft, Singer-Songwriter records, but it's a pleasant listen at least.
