I've noticed a trend in mainstream hip-hop recently, where all of the more 'alternative' artists seem to consistently be dropping super generic albums?

Was really looking forward to the Trugoy feature and it's like two fucking words in the middle of black thought's verse? seriously? I didn't even know where he was until I looked up the lyrics afterwards, incredibly disappointing.
I didn't have high expectations but holy shit this is the worst song I've ever heard... 10/10!
went in wanting another ilmc so I was slightly disappointed upon first listen but after a few more its really grown on me
It's not very funny and throughout the last quarter I really wanted it to end but I actually didn't hate all of it. 4/10
Really great album, its honestly just a bit too long for its own good. If they cut a few songs so it's around 55 mins it would be a solid 8.5
bad album made even worse by a mediocre song and it being a shitty cash grab

I know this is a crazy take but I honestly really didn't like this. Super dated, most beats are very weak and a lot of the rapping is pretty iffy, hasn't aged well at all. Obviously basically creating a whole new genre at 19 is insane but what was yet to come is miles better.
