"Predictable" is not a word that I would associate Poppy with, but nevertheless, "Empty Hands" seems to deliver on every expectation preceded by its singles.
This album, for the most part, plays it incredibly safe with Poppy doubling down on the squeaky clean alternative metal style she dabbled in with her last record. With a title like "XO, My Cyberlove", Chuu's debut album delivers on a strong concept of navigating love through the digital space. The title track sees Chuu ascertaining the complications of online communication and how often it bleeds into relationships. The sentiment is sweet and the thumping bass mimicking heartbeats is a great touch. Although, I find the track to be one of her weaker titles.
