Jazz certainly isn't dead. With the illustrious participation of João Donato, the Brazilian musician who passed away earlier this year (2023), the album carries a distinctly Brazilian sound. In my opinion, however, it falls short of being one of João's or Younge's best works. Nonetheless, it's an enjoyable album. I anticipated the album to center more around Donato's piano virtuosity, but what really stands out are the well-placed drums and rhythms.
The album "Silence" is a great opportunity to delight yourself and hear some elegant and fine jazz. Although sometimes slow, the album never gets boring, and every song has its charm. To me, all of the musicians found their places throughout the piece. Here, every instrument can be heard with clarity, which at times contributes to the melancholic and reflective vibe.
Result of a beautiful friendship, Caetano Veloso & Ivan Sacerdote is a true 'grand encounter between popular song and instrumental performance.' The album manages to bring out the best from both artists, Ivan's refined clarinet playing is breathtaking, along with Caetano's voice that brings a clarity and honesty which, for me, is unique and unparalleled.
