One of the most pleasant listens of the year, Action Bronson gives out fun, yet flowless lyrics combined with cozy production. The whole album is a very nice ride, where you just sit back and appreciate the calm beats accompanied by the guy talking about some "They’ll never find you in the pizza". Quite possibly my rap AOTY contender, although the short lengh does pull it back a little. Give me more beats, Action Bronson!
A very good project, has great lyricism and nice production. It is a little over the place, and some songs are a tad boring. Still, some very high highs.
What an unique album! All of the sounds are so creepy and unsettling, but also cozy. The lack of lyrics or any attention catching production in general most of the time, Inferno requires the listener to understand the sounds on their own, while also making itself memorable and pleasing. Weird titles followed by songs that make you feel like you're lost in the woods, trying to find your way out this even weirder soundscape. Despite being gone for 13 years, the sudden return of BOC brings ... read more
PEGGY DEEP DIVE | EP. 6 - EXPERIMENTAL RAP
The chaos is anywhere but on the goddamn music.
JPEGMAFIA comes out with his 7th/8th studio album under the name, after a shitload of controversy and negativity starting from his 2024 album "I LAY DOWN MY LIFE FOR YOU". Even since, he has been dedicated to making the worst decisions possible for his career, such as releasing low-quality, cash grab deluxes for his albums (a SCARING THE HOES one that barely involved Danny Brown), taking ... read more
Whole album is super consistent, with very good production and lyrics overall. Despite its lenght, it still at times overstays his welcome, but remains a nice ride for the most of it.
Not for me tbh. While I love noise music in general, I just feel like this was... too much noise, to the point where the sounds become way too messy and the lyrics are barely listenable. NOt my vibe for songs, but there were certainly some good elements here as the album is very consistent, just falls out by being too consistent and feeling too same'y
Very good album, the earlier parts definitely were better, with much more interesting production and voices (loved all features there), but the second half starts feeling a tad bloated and overdone, and I was sleeping through the final 5 tracks. Still, I really liked Thundercat here and shows he still has some good stuff to offer
PEGGY DEEP DIVE | EP. 5 - THE GHOST~POP TAPE
Weird, horny, depressing and horny. Yup, it's a Devon album alright!
Before anything, sorry for barely managing to do the Devon catalogue for a so called "full dive before Experimental Rap" which is releasing today. Life has been getting in the way, but I suppose I already heard all Peggy albums so it's alright, I will continue the series after nonetheless. Ep. 6 will be EXPERIMENTAL RAP
Anyways, this is Devon's, and maybe ... read more
PEGGY DEEP DIVE | EP. 4 - DREAMCAST SUMMER SONGS
Ok so this was his actual debut and not generation y so im kind of putting the pieces together still but i find this really funny becau
Devon Hendryx 4th album- I mean debut, follows an incredible sequence of sounds and ambiances that did a great job in showcasing the creative mind of young JPEG. The production is stellar, with cool mixing and relaxing feels, making this a very ethereal experience. Talking from personal bias, Phantasy Star ... read more
I forgot who recommended me this, but thanks! This album was very fun, had some super good rapping from the group, despite feelinga tad too overinfluenced. For ther first album, it is understandable to be yet to find a distinct style, but this did feel like a mix of a bunch of already good stuff. The choruses all sound like K-Pop choruses which is kinda funny ngl
PEGGY DEEP DIVE | EP. 3 - THE ROCKWOOD ESCAPE PLAN
A bit bloated.
Devon Hendryx 3rd album is a very chill experience, keeping in the calm Vaporwave sounds, along with slowly improving rapping from him. The production remains as experimental as it always was, and keeps itself on a very good note by the end. Despite that, the album falls out by being too long, and overstaying his welcome. Some songs have super good ideas, but can fall off tiring as time goes on. Not a bad album in any way ... read more
Very fun! This was a very interesting new direction they took, and while it didn't have as much intensity as Imaginal Disk, it still serves as a very good meal for us to feed upon. Great production as always, and the vocals make me float when listening to it. Your classic Mag Bay beauty.
PEGGY DEEP DIVE | EP. 2 - JOECHILLWORLD
A very good follow up.
The second album under the Devon Hendryx alias comes off in a much more laid back vibe than his predecessor, with very notable vaporwave production. It certainly has a big improvement in lyrics and production, where Peggy has a much more comfortable place in his music, which allows him to deliver some great songs with good lyrics. While some tracks don't hit for me, it is undeniable that he is really putting tons of effort ... read more
PEGGY DEEP DIVE | EP. 1 - Generation Y
An interesting beginning.
Hey guys, to keep myself in touch with all of JPEGMAFIA's work before the release of EXPERIMENTAL RAP, I will be doing a deep dive throughout his discography, seeing how he evolved as an artist and all of the stuff people reason themselves when making deep discog dives.
Peggy is one of my favorite rappers of all time, and certainly one of, if not the best rapper of the 2020's, delivering nothing short of peak this ... read more
I never listened to anything from the Willy Rodriguez members in general, and I barely scratched the surface of this Emo/Slacker Rock universe, so I was very pleased to see that this album is really good! The intrumentals were super nice to listen to, it had a very intense yet calming feeling to them, even if I think the vocals are the ones to steal the show. Drug bug's voice is a super interesting mix of shower singing and "I've trained my whole life for this", which really ... read more
I thought MNBB sounded like cult music, now these guys look like a cult. It's even better!
While I wasn't very associated with Angine de Poitrine nor did their albums really caught my eye, a live performance I saw at Youtube really interested me. They opened it off by playing Sarniezz, which made me go "damn this is kinda fire I gotta listen to the whole thing" and also "why are they barefoot", and here we are.
This album follows a super fun gimmick of unusual ... read more
Lovely birthday gift :)
Despite being ran mostly by Cameron Picton, MNBB has way less similarities to Black midi than whatever Georgie Greed was brewing in The New Sound. This is simply a very enjoyable and simple album, with no bad tracks in it. While I'm not the biggest fan of the noise filled endings some songs come with, it leaves me interested for what the band will offer in the future.
Unfortunately overhated because I had the perfect joke for this album for a month just for it to actually sound good??
ADL is very interesting to me, one who has very weird feeling about trap, despite being an avid hip-hop enjoyer as a whole. As much as I don't mind simply a head banger, I find the generic over-the-top trap production and simple lyrics to usually make me not enjoy it as much. While there are some pretty good trap projects out there (cough cough Travis Scott), I find ... read more
