A great serving (ha I’m so funny) of solid East Coast rap (the best rap). The beats and flows are very consistently good, and the topics regarding consumerism and dumbing down of rap are relevant even today.
The skits are mostly quite charming with the sampled Marvel cartoons, but the large skit taking up 3 tracks in the middle of the record is annoying to sit through after while—a shame as this album is a 10 otherwise.
I forgot this existed. Fuck this.
For the record, Dream never seemed to be that close of a friend to Techno so him cashing in on his death feels even more exploitative.
Then again, considering one of Techno’s actual friends turned out to be a friggin’ weirdo who bites women… eh maybe let Dream get his bag. I know Techno had his family do this with a posthumous merch drop.
The song itself is crap to listen to, btw. Generic pop elevator music that you forget about after it ... read more
Corny comedic rap album. More deserving of a 2 or 3, but I’m keeping this a 0 until the score balances out.
Edit: 2. I listened to it again and forgot about everything I heard immediately. Dude can’t decide if he wants to be comedic or not too—not unlike a lot of “comedians.”
Edit Again: 1/10.
Last edit: The culture and discussion around an album factors into my enjoyment of it. The 4 IQ brainlets who are equating people 0 bombing to counteract the 100 spams ... read more
It’s alright!
I don’t need to express what’s good about this album since everyone else on this damn website has beaten me to it thousands of times over.
So I’ll focus on why I gave it an 8 rather than a perfect score. To start, I don’t think Kendrick has as good of a prescience as a rapper here as he does on his previous LP. Next, the two interludes are whatever, and “Hood Politics” is annoying to listen to. “You Ain't Gotta Lie” ... read more
A bunch of demos, many that have already been available to listen to for a long while, as well as Giles’ butchering of the original two Anthology songs. Just because you can make John’s voice marginally clearer doesn’t mean he should overtake the entire song, idiot.
Edit: Correction, apparently Jeff Lyne did the remixes. Wtf man.
An overall great duo project, with solid rapping from both artists and some creative beats from JPEGMAFIA. But holy crap I would never turn this on outside of my headphones.
