I love that she loves Tom Waits. I do too. A heartbreaking rendition of this killer song that she really makes her own.
If you're already a fan, you'll probably like this. I know there are some tracks that really hit me and I enjoyed listening to it with it fresh and new. However, after some time, a good chunk of these songs are just "meh." This isn't a labored-over font of inspiration, like Springsteen's classics. A quarter of the record is old tracks from the early years that didn't make the cut, and while they're not bad, they're not stellar.

What's there to say that hasn't already been said? This is album is full of powerful energy. I can't help but smile any time any one of these songs comes on. It's the sheer injection of joy and self love our world needs in 2019.
I found out about this band through some of the live sets available on YouTube. Check them out, because they're better versions than the album.
At first this album didn't catch me. I loved the live recordings I'd head of "Colors" and "Stay Gold," but the production didn't really capture that same energy.

I went into this thinking I would probably like it, but not be blown away by it.
Boy, was I wrong. I can't stop listening to this thing. Every song is catchy as hell. The instrumentation is tight and interesting. The melodic guitar parts make each song unique and memorable. The shifting bass parts bolster and elevate the songs, and the fantastic drumming holds the band together.
