I'm a diehard Eels fan and I've got to say this is my favourite album by the band Since 'Tomorrow Morning', considering the disappointment of the previous album (their weakest effort in my opinion) this is a good comeback. Standout track being: Goldy
Industry plant or not there are some absolute bops on this one! They deffo deserve the same hype that Wet Leg got
So far I am enjoying this album much more than their debut, I do think there is a bit of a Thom Yorke fatigue at this point however due to the lack of Radiohead project, I can appreciate 'The Smile' as a side project but It just doesn't feel different or innovative enough to warrant a place in Thoms' catalogue. After seeing the positive reviews for this I had to check it out, I gave it 3 listens but just could not get into it. I found the vocals irritating and the effects on the voice to be a bit much, Im up for experimental but It needs to also sound good, bits of this record sounded like a piss take Radiohead impression. This was a fun start to the year, a lovely little album from Bill Ryder-Jones that has found itself on rotation quite a bit on these dark dreary winter mornings. Great album cover too!
