I'm a diehard Eels fan and I've got to say this is my favourite album by the band Since 'Tomorrow Morning', considering the disappointment of the previous album (their weakest effort in my opinion) this is a good comeback. Standout track being: Goldy
Industry plant or not there are some absolute bops on this one! They deffo deserve the same hype that Wet Leg got
So far I am enjoying this album much more than their debut, I do think there is a bit of a Thom Yorke fatigue at this point however due to the lack of Radiohead project, I can appreciate 'The Smile' as a side project but It just doesn't feel different or innovative enough to warrant a place in Thoms' catalogue. Saying this however, Thom is a victim of his own success, do we need every album to be 'OK Computer' or 'Kid A' to enjoy it? no! The Smile are great and so far this is my AOTY. A ... read more
After seeing the positive reviews for this I had to check it out, I gave it 3 listens but just could not get into it. I found the vocals irritating and the effects on the voice to be a bit much, Im up for experimental but It needs to also sound good, bits of this record sounded like a piss take Radiohead impression. I am disappointed because given the positive reviews I really thought I'd love this, maybe i'll revisit in the future and 'get it' but for now its just ok. Gave it 64 because I can ... read more
This was a fun start to the year, a lovely little album from Bill Ryder-Jones that has found itself on rotation quite a bit on these dark dreary winter mornings. Great album cover too!
Hot take... Better than 'Rockin' the Suburbs', overall more of an emotional experience with my favourite lyrics coming from 'Trusted' and 'Late'.
This shocked me, not my kind of music but the positive reviews made me check it out. Really liked it after a few listens but I don't think it has much longevity... I look forward to seeing what Mr Yachty has in store for us next :)
Liked some of the ideas and the album was catchy and fun, however I can't help but want more. It feels formulaic and almost dull, nothing is done that excites me too much. Despite this it is a good record, I just think they can do more!
Some great songs and ideas here but as a whole album it doesn't appeal to me, stand out tracks are: 'This is Why' and 'You First', would have probably got an 80 if not for 'C’est Comme Ça'... cant stand this song!
This band just don't miss, thy pour their heart and soul into their music and leave absolutely everything they've got on each track! The singles were fantastic for me but the album as a complete package is something else, I can't wait to hear these songs live! To rank this amongst the entire Wonder Years catalogue is tough because they are a band that adapt so much from project to project, this record holds its own against its predecessors sliding into a very respectable 3rd place after the ... read more
As close as we're gonna get to a modern classic, I believe this album will age exceptionally gracefully and be seen amongst the top of album rankings for a long time. The wordplay, the callbacks and the exceptionally powerful and emotional vocals brought by Isaac Wood, a vocalist that we may not hear ever again unfortunately due to his swift exit from the band, all come together to produce a piece of art that absolutely transcends music.
Really exciting new single that i'm hoping signals another fantastic album from the Philadelphia based pop punk band. Love the way they fuse together old and new themes in a mature and interesting way, trust in Dan always!
