how come it's under 80? im genuinely shocked, like, take me by the hand ALONE clears 90% of the music that came out this year. its not perfect, but come on. im not a fan of ambient music but this just hits different. the lyrics are really relatable and the way its catchy without having a beat half the time is amazing.
seriously, more people need to listen to her. i mean, title alone's already great. even the songs i don't fw that much are incredibly well made. ms pacman is the most underrated song of the year, im obsessed with the vocal delivery and the small sound effects.
dead is incredible, im a sucker for strings and she definetly uses them for her advantage. the only thing i dont like is the electric guitar part in the chorus of the nature of power, it gets repettitive really fast.
the album's mostly trash but there's some good songs if you dig deep enough. it's definetly not a zero.
who would've thought somebody who's been called out for 'lacking artistic identity' would be able to make something personal? "The Ambition" is a great example of this. Few times has somebody in her position has spoken about always being the second best, always being almost there, not being good enough.
despite it not being that diverse sonically, it has some experiments. Midnight Sun has an amazing drum and bass type of beat, and Hot & Sexy goes WILD on the ... read more
She takes inspiration from charli but lacks originality. I find it hard to believe that after holy fuck this of all things is the direction she's decided. There's nothing wrong in taking notes from your peers, but don't let that be all you write.
The song slaps though. The bass is so addictive, you really are begging for it, but it never lets Demi's voice shy away from the spotlight. Just hope her personality stands a bit more next time.
Really good debut. The singles were the best part of this record though, like don't get me wrong, everything is pretty good but some of the latter half of the tracklist just blends with each other too well and they end up sounding the same instead of branching out a bit.
Still, amazing album, happy for her. It's just too safe sometimes for my tastes, although I have a feeling this is a grower. Edit: It definetly was.
AOTY contender. usually listen to pop but honestly, anybody, even if you're not that into hip hop, will recognize that this is a masterpiece. thank god it's been a really shitty year for music because if not, never in a million years would i have given this a try.
the way they can blend so many elements into one track is one of their best strengths, the beat switch on BILLIE JEAN for example. it's so random but it makes so much sense. the lyrics are either super deep about ... read more
a pretty good debut from one of music's best new pop artists.
although the singles were definetly the best part of the project, the rest isn't bad at all. she wears her influences on her sleeve (you can't tell me the chorus synth in "FinallyApologizing" isn't oddly similar to "Guess"), but it's still very solid.
every song is cohesive, with lyrics mostly about the industry's problems and catchy instrumentation. She already has a vision, a ... read more
cannot express how unfair it feels that we are listening to a sloppy AI artist that calls people jobless instead of listening to real music.
if you told me in 2020 i'd be telling my friends to listen to an Addison Rae album in 2025, i would've been confused. if you told me in 2023, i wouldnt've been surprised in the slightest. in 2024, would've screamed my lungs out because that meant she had released her debut.
the album starts off with New York, a very hypnotic track. it builds, builds and builds until it finally drops and you get that dopamine rush she is just so good at doing, similar to Aquamarine. Diet ... read more
loved the robotic voice and the beat until she suddenly started to high-pitch her vocals and it ruined the whole thing. it feels the same as YIPPE-KI-YAY. with the really corny lyrics and its weird production style. I understand she wants to do something unique, but being unique doesn't equal to being good.
honestly, this album is amazing!! IF you're listening to it while doing literally anything else. listened to this twice, once fully concentrated and the other while writing this review and enjoyed it much more the second one because listening to it was not the main focus.
the first track, "intro (end of the world)" starts off the album with a pleasant introduction which sets the vibe pretty well but it's nothing outstanding. "bye" is reminiscent of her early work ... read more
what a rollercoaster of an album this was...
the first track, "I LUV IT", has a really nice ominous synth which inmediately gets ruined by the off-key, autotuned vocals which feel as if Camila just picked a random recording for it and put it in the song, and "Channel No.5" doesn't do any good either, although the piano was very nice and it had some better lyrics (not good, better).
fortunately the album gets interesting with the dreamy "pink xoxo" interlude ... read more
Is this the same FKA Twigs that made me shiver the first time I listened to 'Weak Spot'?
I guess now there is a trend to do dance music inspired by brat or something, but I don't think everybody has the charm to do it as well as Charli did. Ironically, Tahliah did it even BETTER. The whole record feels as if an alien entered a rave at 3 AM and started to dance while escaping the ufo that wants them to go back to their planet.
The record starts really strong with the lead ... read more
2024 has been a really good year for popular music, Charli finally got the success she deserved, Billie Eilish dropped a pretty good album, and somebody called Chappell Roan blew up because of one TikTok song. Apparently an album she had released a year ago, called 'The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess', also became popular.
Now, Chappell's road to stardom was not at all easy, she got famous by doing covers in YouTube which then led to Atlantic signing a record deal with her ... read more
I discovered Charli in 2022 with Crash and then grew to love lots of her projects thanks to this site, especially How I'm Feeling Now, but I'm saving that review for the 10 followers special.
Anyways, you know that character in TV shows that really matures and is basically unrecognizable by the end of the series? That is how Pop 2 feels. If you compare this with Sucker it is truly jaw dropping how much BETTER this is.
Backseat is a banger, Carly and Charli really sound like a match ... read more
i've always felt like Tinashe was criminally underrated, she didn't make the best music, but you were still guaranteed a genuine bop with every listen. any song from her could be a massive hit, but unfortunately that never happened (apart from "2On"), until this year, with "Nasty" (edit: now with "No Broke Boys" she's done it a third time!!).
because of that song, i decided to listen to her debut after a veryyy long time to see if my feelings would ... read more
It's not perfect and it's a bit too boring for my tastes, the chorus is the only part that stands out but it saves the song, hope that her next songs are more interesting and don't end so abruptly
