Real Estate - The Main Thing
75

This is what you would expect from this band, a very good album....thoroughly enjoyable when listening to it, and then kinda forgettable once it's finished. Occasionally I'll wonder why I don't love this band more than I do.....it's a question I can't answer, but it says something.....

Amason - Sky City
76

Some of the tracks on this album are genuinely sensational. Pretty slick indie rock all in all.

Loving - If I Am Only My Thoughts
74

I have a real weakness for this style of production and arrangement, some really good stuff here but as an album I'm not finding the songs maintain the quality of the first few tracks. Still, definitely worth checking out.

Fruit Bats - Gold Past Life
84

This is a really strong album. It was my introduction to the Fuit Bats and after exploring their back catalogue I still rate it as their strongest. Just really great song writing.

Dawes - Passwords
70

I really like some of the tracks on this album, but overall it doesn't quite gel as an album as much as some of their previous work did. The production is edging into commercial rock a little too much for my tastes, but overall a reasonably solid release.

Andy Shauf - The Neon Skyline
90

This is a really great album. I've been listening to it on repeat quite a bit since its release....however it's an album that needs to played without distractions. Sit down, listen, pay attention to the lyrics.....its score went up about 15 points after giving it the attention it deserves.

A genuine concept album, give it a spin, tell em' Don sent you!

Sun Kil Moon - I Also Want to Die in New Orleans
45

If I didn't know what Mark Kozelek was capable of I may be less harsh on these later stream of consciousness style albums..... unfortunately I 've heard April, Ghosts of the Great Highway and the Redhouse Painters...... this offering is well well well below what he's capable of doing.

It sounds lazy, and boring.

Beach Fossils - Somersault
83

I keep coming back to this album. The songs are great, it has a dream pop/indie/70s vibe to it which really holds up well to repeated listens. I just stumbled across these guys, so I've never heard their back catalogue, so I don't know how it compares to their previous stuff, however, I highly recommend this album.

Get around it!

Ethan Gruska - En Garde
57

I was really looking forward to this album. I really liked his previous album, however I think Ethan has gone a bit nuts with the production to the point where the multiple layers and textures, as impressive as they sound, obscure the songs.

Unfortunately this album has more style than substance. I'm pretty disappointed all in all.

Bonny Light Horseman - Bonny Light Horseman
100

This is nothing short of sensational. Incredible songs, arrangements, and performances. It's the best album I've heard in a long time.

I can't imagine an album beating this one for my album of the year....

Neil Young - Landing on Water
60

Despite the critics reviews this album has some pretty good songs....if you can make it passed the production there's good stuff in here.

Big Thief - Two Hands
95

I was mildly underwhlmed by UFOF (by Big Thief standards), but Two Hands is an absolutely cracking album. Right up there for album of the decade for mine.
