i love the contrast between her previous work and lover. reputation is almost entirely made of love songs about joe alwyn, while lover has more tracks with deeper and more meaningful backstories:
'i've got a hundred thrown-out speeches i almost said to you
[...] who could stay? you could stay (you)'
'desperate people find faith,
so now i pray to Jesus too'
regarding this album, we are going to pretend the opening track does not exist.
also, if you gave this album a ... read more
now this is how you make a pre-breakup album - without anyone truly understanding you're on the edge
"maroon" is pretty much the song that screams breakup and reminiscing over a relationship. my favorite from the album and probably from her entire discography.
'the rust that grew between telephones'
"sweet nothing" sounds like the last attempt of preserving a good memory from her relationship that was about to end. lyrically stunning, sonically ... read more
sonically, great album! lyrically, not so strong. i wish she'd have more to say than only sex and men. i get that's what the album is about, but should it really be entirely about it? i guess so lol
am i tripping or do i hear some abba references throughout the album? it mostly hit me on 'goodbye'. also, some songs sound like positions from ariana, such as 'tears'.
surprisingly, i ended up enjoying this album. never thought i'd get into sabrina, but seems ... read more
this makes me wanna isolate myself in a wooden cabin in the middle of absolutely nowhere
'there's a black crow sitting across from me
his wiry legs are crossed
he is dangling my keys
he even fakes a toss
whatever could it be
that has brought me to this loss?'
mistki opening an album once again with a jumpscare at the end of the track... we're so back
it's almost like 'bury me at makeout creek' and 'the land is inhospitable and so are we' had a kid.
she pretty much alternates between indie folk and indie rock during the entire record.
the violins and lyrics on 'dead women'... holyyy fuck!!!
highlights: dead women, i'll change for you, charon's obol
won't listen again: where's my phone?
'eu vou enganar o diabo,
eu quero acordar sua família,
eu vou escrever no seu muro
e violentar o seu gosto,
eu quero roubar no seu jogo,
eu já arranhei os seus discos'
'mentiras' é simplesmente indescritível. apenas uau.
underrated and most definitely overhated.
one thing that does bother me about this album is how its concept was portrayed as revenge-driven and groundbreaking, when in reality, it's almost entirely dedicated to joe alwyn. lover has more thematically complex songs than reputation.
with that being said: so it goes + dancing with our hands tied + dress + call it what you want nearly clear the entirety of 1989's tracks. these are hidden gems in taylor's discography!!!!!!

i haven't listened to this album in probably 5 years and it's crazy how it screams covid-19 and quarantine.
the highlight of this project is probably how the intro of '1 step forward, 3 steps back' sounds exactly like new year's day by taylor swift. jokes aside, the only song i was able to enjoy was deja vu, which is actually great. throughout the song you can feel what she's trying to transmit, unlike all of the other ones.
i was only able to get through ... read more
absolute GOOSEBUMPS from the begining til' the end of this project. this is how you make a gay breakup album.
to me, the only song that stops this album from being perfect is "i don't love you anymore". there are good moments, but, in general, the high-pitched voice and lack of lyrical content just annoys me.
unintentionally or not, using fault in 'don't leave, it's my fault' is actually genius, considering earthquakes and geological faults are ... read more
a deep dive into kendrick's personal life and his generational trauma-breakthrough
'cause if i won it all without you involved, i guess it's all for nothing'
'we're just two lost souls swimming in a fishbowl, year after year'
this single track by itself is absolutely revolutionary.
beautiful progressive rock album. simple, yet full of details.
echoes is a bit overrated in my opinion.
also, seamus (the old hound) annoyed the fuck out of me. this track would be so chill without the constant barking, but whatever.
ok computer is louder than i'd like, but i do love the whole futuristic-technological concept of the album.
a bit overrated if i may say, but i understand why this is considered a classic in radiohead's discography.
sounds dreamy as hell, but i wouldnt play this album if i actually wanted to pay attention to the music.
this is perfect for a night drive with a friend, the album plays in the background, but we mostly talk over it.
for sure i was expecting more, but was surprised to find out most of the songs give off the exact same vibe and sound very similar to each other.
overall, it's good though!
a nice surprise! some of their best songs are definitely on this album. the classics remain amazing, high and dry, as well as fake plastic trees are simple and beautiful. i very much love when radiohead leads to this kind of road, instead of the "way too loud and messy" road.
'(nice dream)' and 'bullet proof... i wish i was' were two other favorites for sure, although not as popular.
also i gotta say that i love this album cover, it conveys the message of the album ... read more
