Some songs are legit just strokes riffs or melodies it's crazy lol, some are completely egregious, like Change Your Mind, With Or Without You, or Digital Clock, but it's in most of them tbh
Doesn't make it bad, I still like it, it's funny to see the influence! But to me it's not a coincidence that the 2 tracks that sound the least like the strokes are the best ones in my opinion (Anita and Premature Rejection) when they find their own sound, they're very good, as ... read more
Really fun! As some others said, some parts in the songs are super similar to songs by the Strokes, but they're really good! (namely Corridor, and also just the part when she sings "ask for more" in What You Doing)
Soltame is a highlight, to the point where Just No Fun becomes sort of irrelevant because it's simply completely overshadowed
The only song I'd potentially skip is Wasted a Drunk, otherwise it's all really fun to listen to!
A year on, I don't think there's anything I could say about this that hasn't been said better by thousands of other people, but man, what a fucking experience this thing is. Probably the single best top to bottom experience I've ever had with an album, don't think I've ever re-listened to an entire album without skipping anything more than I've done with this. Even the interludes are an integral part of it, and while I do think some songs individually may be a ... read more
very good! reminds me a little bit of washing machine heart by mitski at some points, really fun song, wish it was longer!

I used to be alright with charli, listened to her discography a few months back, I'd overall be at a 6-7 out of 10 on it, pretty good but nothing outstanding to me. And then this shit came out, and wow my guy that might be the greatest album I've ever heard. Don't think there's anything I could say that hasn't been said already, it's all so good, all killer no filler (ok maybe some filler but even those are good) and the songs are short, which is something that ... read more
When I heard the first four songs of this album, I was in heaven and thought we were in for an entire pop rock Marina album, at which point I was ready to dish out a 10, then the second part hit, and I was a bit disappointed. Though no song on there is bad (apart from new America lol) I just think the first four showed a style she could be so good in, that the letdown of it being dropped in favour of slower ballads leads me to be perhaps quite biased against it. Venus Fly Trap is a top 3 Marina ... read more
Don't see how anyone who enjoys Marina could argue this isn't her weakest release yet. From the regrettable rebrand (losing the "and the diamonds" really made her lose track of who Marina is, and feels like, musically) to the uninspired production on some tracks, to bland and shallow lyrics on some songs (I would simply stop being depressed and enjoy my life) coupled with an odd choice of release (If I remember correctly, the album was split in two parts, with the Love part coming ... read more
Arguably her best album musically and lyrically, it only loses out to the Family Jewels in my book due to personal emotional bias. Only one meh song in this whole thing (it's weeds but you knew that) and the rest is magnificent. Even though I like TFJ more, this is probably the album that feels the most like Marina to me.
A sellout album that is actually good in my opinion. As always, some forgettable tracks, but overall some of her catchiest songs are on there. Feels like an album that would have been infinitely more popular had it come out in the last five years, some songs sound like pure TikTok crack.
One of, if not my favourite album of all time, from my favourite artist of all time, with only one truly forgettable song in my opinion (Guilty) while it's not her most accomplished record musically, I kinda don't really care about that all that much tbh. Most if not all the songs on there are good to great, and for the special place this album holds in my life, this will forever be the GOAT
I did not expect to like that album so much, as I'm usually not a fan of slower paced songs, but like Angles, it has immensely grown on me, and in much quicker time than Angles took. I think Ode to the Mets is a genuine 10, and while a few songs don't quite hit me that hard (Bad Decisions, Not the same Anymore) the rest of the album is fantastic and makes for an amazing final (for now) chapter in their career as a band. Hopefully more greatness to come
Quite tough to rate a three-song EP (I will acknowledge the existence of the moretti remix when china acknowledges the existence of taiwan as a separate country) when I find one song obnoxious (Drag Queen) one song above average (Oblivius) and one song very good (Threat of Joy)
Some good songs in there, but this album is just not what I personally want the Stronks to be, I actually don't think anything on there is worse than the songs off of FIOE I'd consider bad, but a full album of 5/10 songs with a few bright spots is less interesting to me than an album with some bangers and some stinkers
Used to really dislike this album bar a few songs, but it has grown on me quite a lot, to the point where I'd only consider three songs off of it to be meh, the rest ranging from good (call me back, metabolism, gratisfaction) to absolutely fantastic (machu picchu, life is simple in the moonlight, UCOD)
First Strokes album where there are songs that are a skip for me, and this album has quite a few of those unfortunately. The extremely high quality of the first few songs is very quickly dampened by some forgettable ones, and the later tracks on the album are imo some of their worst. That last run of songs is saved by Ize of the World, likely a top 10 songs of their discography for me, and to a lesser extent, Red Light. The rest is extremely forgettable, though not downright bad.
