Genesis - The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway

Tf was I smoking when I gave this an 80?

John Denver & The Muppets - A Christmas Together

I am biased as fuck and I do not care!

Grand Funk Railroad - Closer to Home
80

The last song is an absolute masterpiece and the other song's flaws really show when you put it into perspective, but it's still worth hearing the whole work. They got a lot of good stuff and it's easy to see why they're the cult band that they are

Aphrodite's Child - It's Five O'Clock

You know the band's good if their worst album was only decent

Pink Floyd - More

I have listened to this album three times by now, and it's without a doubt my least favorite album from my favorite band. The band just lost Barrett by the time the album was recorded, and it's obvious that they were really struggling with what kind of direction to go in for both this album and the later "Ummagumma". It sounds like a Pink Floyd album, but it's missing so much that I expect from the band. And that's something I can give "Ummagumma" credit for, at the very ... read more

King Crimson - In the Wake of Poseidon

"In the Court of the Crimson King" is without a doubt, one of the greatest works to ever grace the musical landscape. So King Crimson had their work cut out for them when it came to making a follow up. But instead of going in yet another new, bold musical direction, they decide to play it safe and continue with their now winning formula. The band does put out good work, but disappointing work at that.

The entire album really does feel like it's trying to do the exact same thing as ... read more

Jack Stauber - Micropop
80

Honestly i don't have much to say here given the amount of songs I'm covering, but what I can say is that this is a very fun and interesting album to listen to. Jack Stauber has a very interesting musical style that's very hard to categorize, and that's a good part of why I love him. His music goes into the realm of the weird all the time, but uses a bunch of styles like psychedelia, jazz fusion, etc to the point of each song sounding very distinct. Something that's especially hard to pull off ... read more

Pink Floyd - The Dogs of War

Definitely up there as one of Pink Floyd's weakest songs. Overly edgy lyrics, uninteresting instrumentals, and the same dated production that plagues the rest of the album it comes from. It's also really just another anti-war song from the band, but not even that feels really well-handled in comparison to one of their earlier ones ("Us & Them", "Corporal Clegg", etc.). Not the absolute worst on the album but definitely a good reason why Pink Floyd fans are so mixed on ... read more

The Moody Blues - Days of Future Passed
89

I gotta admit, I didn't expect to like this album as much as I did. I went into this one completely blind, not having heard any of the band's work beforehand and only knowing that the album was an early example of progressive rock. I was quite surprised by what I was given to say the least, and one of the more unique albums I have heard in a while.

There's no real genre I could place this into. It has elements of progressive rock and art rock, and even psychedelic rock, but at the same time ... read more

Begt - The Shortest Album
5

I'll only give this 5 extra points for being an interesting concept. The problem is that the concept itself is way too flawed to be done well. Maybe doing an extremely short album would work if it was a minute or two long. If the album is 12 seconds long, then there's absolutely no way you can make each song sound varied from each other when a song is only a second in length each. So all we really get is just a blend of sounds that just sounds kind of bleh. There's nothing interesting about ... read more

Yes - Fragile
70

As weird as this is gonna sound, I don't believe this is a highpoint for Yes, and feels more like a few steps down from "The Yes Album" than being a move forward for the band. I don't necessarily think that the songs are bad, far from it. But I never really found a lot of the said songs to be great. I enjoy "Long Distance Runaround/The Fish" and "Roundabout" is a revered song for a reason (though far from my favorite, as you'll see in a bit). But for the most part, ... read more

Pink Floyd - Ummagumma

Boy this is a weird album.

I want to start this out by saying that Pink Floyd is my all-time favorite band. They can go in any musical direction and still distinctly feel "Floydian" in nature and sound appealing, which is a large part of why they're my favorite. They can go into the realm of an interpretive rock opera (The Wall and The Final Cut), or even back in their early days where they sang about buttercups and bicycles (Piper at the Gates of Dawn), they still always sounded ... read more

Doug Walker - Nostalgia Critic’s The Wall

Absolutely painful to hear from start to finish. Right from the beginning two things are abundantly clear:

1) Doug can't sing at all
2) Doug doesn't understand the source material at all

I won't need to touch on the singing element much because there's no words in existence that can accurately describe how awful it sounds. A think an accurate description would be he's the male rock equivalent to Florence Foster Jenkins, but even more tone deaf.

Many of the songs are trying to ... read more

Genesis - Selling England by the Pound
100

Here it is. Without any shred of doubt, my favorite album of all time.

This was the first album I ever heard from Genesis, I was hot off of listening to the likes of King Crimson and Pink Floyd and was looking for something different. Progressive rock was really the only genre I was listening to at this time (and really still do only listen to) so after a bit of searching, I quickly found Genesis. I wasn't aware that they were a completely different kind of band for their first couple of ... read more
