I tried listening to wlfgrl two years ago and I could not see the appeal of this group at all. After listening to this album, I get it now. It's a fun listen.
Nurture is such an easy, relaxing listen. It doesn't reach the emotional and instrumental highs that Porter Robinson is capable of, but that doesn't mean it falls short in anything either. Just a really solid project.
Indietronica hasn't been this sublime since LCD Soundsystem's trilogy of projects in the mid 2000s. Russian Roulette, Year of the Cup, and Is There Really No Happiness are some of the best songs I've heard all year.
This was my second Tyler album (the first being Igor), and gottam it delivered. There isn't a single bad song on this thing.
I had a crazy ascension with this one. Listened to it while walking around at night. It's so soothing, engaging, and exciting all at once. While I don't hate the length of it (in fact I think it adds to the overall experience), it definitely didn't do some songs justice. Aside from Tonight, Tonight, Bullet with Butterfly Wings, and 1979, I cannot remember a single song from the almost 30 that are here. But I still loved it, and I bet it'll grow on me.
This album is incredible. Definitely their best. Some songs are forgettable and feel like filler, but the bangers such as Girlfriend is Better and Burning Down the House more than make up for that. Also, This Must Be the Place is one of the best album closers, EVER.
Favorite Song: This Must Be the Place
Boring.
I expected this album to be either hilariously bad or incredibly beautiful. But nah it was just really forgettable. White Ball was pretty nice but that's about it.
I see its appeal but it just doesn't hit for me.
Favorite Song: White Ball
Least Favorite Song: Murders
Deftone's best album. Some parts are sluggish, some parts are mixed horrifically, but the highs are euphoric and it's overall an enjoyable and memorable listen.
Favorite Song: Entombed
Least Favorite Song: Romantic Dreams
Dude WHAT. This shit had me on the GROUND.
Favorite Song: (un)equivalent_exchange
Least Favorite Song: THEY ALL GO HARD
Really nice. Into had me worried but it all came around eventually. Vocals were amazing. Burn Alive is probably my favorite song of the year.
Favorite Song: Burn Alive
Least Favorite Song: Prelude To Ecstasy
Saw that Brad reviewed this. As somebody who actually enjoys DGD, I decided to check it out.
And damn this thing is MID. Some parts really come through and are super interesting to listen to, but the god, damn, VOCALS. Oh my LORD the vocals on here are awful. They sound exactly the same throughout the entire thing and completely drown out whatever interesting instrumentals there are. Aside from a few standout tracks (Moon and Lightning aren't too bad), this shit is just baaaaaad and ... read more
I put off this album for YEARS, but I'm very happy I finally came around to giving it a listen.
The holy trinity of studio albums that Soundsystem put out in the 2000s (Self titled, Sound of Silver, This is Happening) holds a very special place in my heart. I'm extremely nostalgic for all of those projects, and after relistening to them again recently, I can confidently say that they only got better with time. I always avoided american dream, however, cause I was scared that it couldn't ... read more
Consistently good, but not willing to take enough risks.
I didn't know anything about this project, I just saw it at the top of the website today and decided to listen. Hearing Yorke's voice straight up jumpscared me, and after doing further research and learning that this band was a Radiohead spinoff, I was extremely excited to give this a listen. And, well, idk, it's good. I enjoyed every song at least a little. It just got kinda stale and predictable at points, like I knew exactly what to ... read more
My first Swans album ever! And though I enjoyed it, I don't think it's some "masterpiece" as others claim.
I gave this album my full focus and really tried to get into it. During the first three songs, I really, REALLY got into it, and was warmly enveloped by it's mysteriously uncomfortable yet soothing sound.. However, I can't remember anything past that point - it was all just a blur. Nothing stood out. I enjoyed it in the moment, but nothing stuck with me.
Maybe I just need more ... read more
Pure bliss. Sounds like home.
Favorite Song: Quiet Houses
Least Favorite Song: Heard Them Stirring
SDRE returns with their classic sound, modernized and perfectly adapted to the time.
It's like if Twenty One Pilots tried making a song like Favorite Liar by The Wrecks yet somehow worse. And it's an entire album.
A friend recommended this record to me with very little context. I was actually excited to check this out because I loved Brittle Bones Nicky as a kid (in fact I think that song still holds up pretty well). But holy, HOLY shit this album is ass. The first two songs gave me exactly what I wanted from this project: dumb fun. But then it kept going...and then the vocals ... read more
This shit's BOOOOORING. Aside from a few genuine moments, 21 just sounds lifeless and stale here.
Favorite Song: dark days
Least Favorite Song: sneaky
I decided to listen to Green Day's supposed "best album" after hearing the garbage they put out this year, and I was pleasantly surprised.
The band feels a lot more confident here, and rightfully so. The instrumentals are so much more polished and interesting than in their newer stuff, and they mesh well with Billie Joe Armstrong's vocals. You can tell this was made before the band got huge - this has so much more passion than anything else I've heard from them. It's fast paced and ... read more
