Bruno Mars - The Romantic

this album did absolutely nothing for me but Bruno Mars is undeniably one of the greatest vocalists alive right now.

Bon Iver - For Emma, Forever Ago

hasn’t left my CD player for a hot minute

Devin Townsend - Biomech

Devin Townsend man. what a genius. Ocean Machine is an album that is incredibly catchy, well written, awash in instrumentation, and… devastatingly poignant? this being Townsend’s debut solo album makes the project even more insane. i guess that during his time in Strapping Young Lad (shoutout SYL!), he had a lot of time to write some more laid back jams. which is not to say that this album doesn’t have some flat-out rockers on it. The first three tracks (Seventh Wave, Life, ... read more

Panopticon - Roads to the North

probably my favorite black metal album ever, point blank. the fusion of black metal and Appalachian folk music is pretty unique but it works super well. as someone who has spent a lot of time hiking the hills and trails of Appalachia, i feel a certain connection to this album. i have this specific memory of being in the car an being driven up north through the winding hills of the Appalachian mountain range. i had the album on in my headphones and it felt like a movie. it was truly a ... read more

Muse - Origin of Symmetry

ughhh this album makes me mad because the first half is some of my favorite songs ever but the second half is just so forgettable. genuinely woulda worked better as an EP that ends right after Micro Cuts. but oh well, its still magnificent. this album is huge. everything is so bombastic and dramatic. Citizen Erased has one of the sickest riffs ever and it hits like a sledgehammer. i could go on and on about that song, it’s one of my all time favorites. don’t even get me started ... read more

Lingua Ignota - SINNER GET READY

"Paradise will be mine."
one of the most spiritual albums i’ve ever heard. i felt scared, depressed, and at last, liberated. and i had a whole lotta goosebumps the entire time.

immensely beautiful album. silhouettes is one of the best songs ever and thats a fact. unfortunately some of the songs in the middle kinda lose me but overall this thing is amazing. oh and the last two songs are brilliant as well.

ISIS - Oceanic

an absolutely crushing slab of music. Oceanic is ISIS’s bleakest album by far, and it has a special place in my heart. there are so many amazing sections on this album. for example when the heavy guitars come in on "Carry". it literally sounds like a huge wave pulling you under and getting pulled into the deepest depths of the ocean. i can’t think of many musical passages that evoke an image as lucid as that one. the whole album is a masterpiece of tension and release, of ... read more

billy woods - GOLLIWOG

oh my goddddd bro this album is amazing. billy woods is truly a genius this shit is insane. this is absolute poetry. the stories, metaphors, references, allusions are amazing.
"Trapped a housefly in an upside-down pint glass and waited for it to die
It’s still alive"
his prose is magnificent. truly just poetry.
don’t get me started on the production. absolutely incredible from start to finish. great features too. the album ends poignantly and leaves you feeling a lot of ... read more

goddamn this album slaps! didnt expect this album to go this hard but it absolutely did. songs like "Magazine", "Life Hex”, "ist halt so" and "Cursive" are just sick asf. tbh every song on here is sick asf. also that billy woods feature is so good! amazing crossover. another thing about the album i really love is the atmosphere is just right. this album makes me feel a very specific way and i love it. such a cool album!
