R.E.M. is one of my boyfriend's favorite bands. One of the all time great debuts by any band ever.
R.E.M. laid waste to the indie scene of the '80s unleashing a hail of...pleasant jangly guitars and melodic vocal harmonies.
Boff.
tl;dr: an all time favorite
Murmur is one of three, maybe four records that I would call legitimately perfect. Not just in a perfect score kind of way - a look at my profile will show you I have well over that number of perfect scores - but in the sense that there is literally nothing I would change about it. Okay this is far better than Automatic For The People, they are far more lively on this record. They have more passion and hunger in how they play and the vocals, and though Automatic For The People was a little repetitive, this doesn't have that.
