This is what it feels like to fall into the abyss, and look back up at yourself.
Dark, whimsical, playful, and angelic. And throughout, it sounds like you're listening in on someone's dreams.
A fairly complex album, some songs have plenty of energy and others are great to sit back and relax to. Many likely make the mistake of thinking it should be shorter or have more energetic songs, but it's successful in being a solid album that's sequenced well, with amazing stand-out songs, great beats, and versatility in terms of both vocals and production. I also appreciate the obvious influence from Gorillaz and its animal theme.
This album takes the original sound and amplifies it. It's cleaner, more fleshed out, and adds much more synth and rock. It's almost a sequel to the first album, starting with themes of confusion and frustration on Innerspeaker, and Lonerism diving into loneliness with deeper concepts and emotions.
A very solid album through and through. Talent clearly shows in every member, and well written lyrics are amazingly delivered. It's structured very well from start to finish, and has a grand conclusion with one of the most emotionally powerful songs I've heard to date. It almost sounds like a modern Beatles album, succeeding in pop, rock, and everything in-between. This album never gets old.
