Duster - Stratosphere

Really good. Very raw music, cold and static-y atmosphere. Really relaxing to listen to from start to finish, enjoyed this a lot.

The Stone Roses - Turns into Stone

Really good collection of songs. Less of a dream-pop kind of sound to these, a bit of a different sound to their debut. This is more of a straight indie-rock sound, but I still enjoyed it a lot.

Mark Hollis - Mark Hollis

Amazing album. So beautiful, it revels in its quiet moments and embraces the silence, even more than Talk Talk's last 2 albums did. This album is arguably even slower and more serene, and the last track ending on a minute or so of silence feels fitting for this being the final album. Loved every second.

Slint - Tweez

Sets the foundations for one of my favourite albums, but itself is not a great album. I like the experimentation going on, but the mixing varies drastically from song to song and at its best the mixing isn't great. Hated the ASMR parts, made certain songs unreplayable for me despite them being decent. Overall not great, but the glimpses are there.

Vince Staples - Cry Baby
82

Very good, Vince Staples is such an underrated and consistent artist, this project continues a growing catalogue of great releases. A more funk inspired album compared to Dark Times, with more rock inspired production. This album gives off an angry and cynical vibe, but more of a deep seated and exasperated anger rather than explosive. I thought it would be tough to follow up with an album as great and complex in themes as Dark Times, but this album is a great follow up.

Iceage - For Love of Grace & The Hereafter
79

Very good. Sounds like a modernized version of early Strokes. I didn't dislike any of the songs on here, it's quite different to their early sound which was a lot more aggressive and abrasive. This is more melodic, but with the guitar playing I'm used to. Really enjoyed this.

Fav: No Fear
Least Fav: True Blue

Boards of Canada - Inferno
84

Very good. A big upgrade on Tomorrow's Harvest for me, this feels more like the sound that made the other albums so good. It feels and sounds more focused and interesting than the previous album, and is quite similar to Geogaddi in mood I think. Really enjoyed this, defo one of my albums of the year so far.

Fav: Naraka
Least Fav: Introit

Aphex Twin - Come to Daddy
77

Good. This is a weird album even by Aphex Twin's standards, but it works mostly. This is probably the most "lyrical" content I've heard on these albums, some questionable lines. But overall, I think it's a good project, some gems on here.

Fav: Flim
Least Fav: Come to Daddy - Little Lord Faulteroy Mix

The Fall - Grotesque (After the Gramme)
65

It's decent. I get that the grotesqueness is the point, but some of the songs I don't enjoy because of that. I enjoyed some of the songs on here, I quite liked The NWRA, but the others are hit and miss for me. The weakest Fall album so far for me.

Fav: The NWRA
Least Fav: WMC-Blob 59

Genesis - Selling England by the Pound
90

Amazing. Some elite prog-rock songs on here, and everything in-between is quality too. The biggest issue with this album for me is the longer songs just outclass the rest of the songs on the album, I think if the whole album was as good as those songs it would be practically perfect. Incredible album.

Fav: Firth of Fifth
Least Fav: Aisle of Plenty

King Crimson - Lizard
79

One of their weakest so far, but I didn't dislike it by any means. It sounded like prog-rock but I don't think it was as interesting as some of their other records. I think Red, ITCOTCK, and ITWOP are all better in different avenues, whereas this album sort of touches on the areas that make those albums great on the surface level. That being said it's a decent album.

Ed O'Brien - Blue Morpho

Enjoyed it. A pretty album, some great atmospheric songs on here. Love the sound, some songs not as good as others tho. I liked this.

Sufjan Stevens - Michigan
86

600th rating, decided to start diving into Sufjan Stevens. Really beautiful album. The soundscapes on here are so vibrant and easy on the ear, it's very soft, hopeful and warm. I think the second half is better than the first, it picks up as it goes and culminates in a wonderful crescendo. Gotta listen to more.

Fav: Vito's Ordination Song

Elliott Smith - Roman Candle

Really good. Interesting album, quite emotional. Aside from the lyrical content, some great guitar playing on this. Very pleasant to listen to despite the melancholic vibe. I'm a fan, must check out more.

Fav: Roman Candle
Least Fav: Drive All Over Town

Bob Dylan - Down in the Groove
37

Sucks. What the hell was he thinking with Ugliest Girl In The World?? Generic sounding, uninspired writing, and no real cohesion. There are glimpses of good writing on here, namely within Death Is Not The End, but it's not enough to salvage this. Being boring whilst sounding unfocused it's a terrible combination, but this album achieves it. That being said I don't think it's as dire as Knocked Out Loaded. So there's that.

Women - Public Strain
84

Pretty good. I will say I'm more used the more post-punk and aggressive sound of Preoccupations, and I do prefer that sound, but I can see similar stylings in this. This is more mellow and more lo-fi. I'm a fan.

Fav: Eyesore
Least Fav: Untogether

Sonic Youth - Bad Moon Rising
79

Solid. Better than Confusion is Sex imo, similarly experimental but more of a discernable sound. Industrial and noisy. Liked most of the songs, a couple I'm not big on tho. Overall I like it.

Fav: Death Valley '69
Least Fav: Ghost Bitch

Boards of Canada - Tomorrow's Harvest
70

Decent. A bit disappointed having listened to the rest of their catalogue, I didn't enjoy this as much. Sound felt like a more watered down version of their other albums to me, some songs just drifted by without leaving much of an impact. That being said, some good songs on here particularly in the final stretch. It's ok.

Fav: Come To Dust
Least Fav: Gemini

Starflyer 59 - Leave Here a Stranger

This is solid. Transitioning more to pop from shoegaze as the albums go. I liked this, but it's the weakest so far.

Cocteau Twins - Milk and Kisses
83

A nice album. Overall probably their least interesting album, but it's still solid all round. Pleasant to listen to, but not as ethereal as a HOLV or even a Five Calendar Cafe, and far removed from the darker tones of HOH and Treasure. It's a good album.
