The standard trap beat doesn’t do much for me on this combined with Curry’s lazy approach. I think that Juicy J Carrie’s here by bring just a bit more energy then Curry.
This album feels like it’s missing something large. I think that the writing is good, but the rapping and beats fall very far flat from making this worth the listen. The only track I would come back to here is easily the last one because it gives a glimpse of what could have been with this project.
Edit: lol fantano gets it
There are some good tracks here, not mind blowingly good, just pretty good. But then there are a lot of tracks I’m more eh about. Some ideas here just don’t work, such as the chorus on EddEdnEddy and Underwear. It’s good for a debute, but it doesn’t hold a candle to what J.I.D is doing right now.
When this album is bad, it sounds like a bland Bowie ripoff. When this album is good, it sounds like a Bowie ripoff. I just wish this album had more of its own thing to offer since this is such a personal project to Damon.
The vocal mixing on some of these tracks took me out of them. And I don't think the writing here is as air tight as some of Danny's other works. I think partially because he doesn't have much of a purpose on this album compairred to something like XXX or Atrocity Exhibition, which were cautionary tales of Danny's experiences with drugs. It's still decent, I just wish there was something more compelling here.
Au5 puts forward some interesting sonic concepts in Iconoclast, but the first half is pretty forgettable before managing to find its footing in the second half.
The build up and the ending don't mix well at all. I only rate it this high because the beginning is so damn good.
Edit: (83-40) Yeah... the Thom Yorke effect has really worn thin on me with this album cycle. I can now fully recognize that this doesn't work very well at all. The build up is pleasant, but very stagnant, And the conclusion still doesn't do the song any favors.
The first track is way too ambitious and falls flat compared to every other track on the ep. The rest are decent and some are even better than tracks on the album.
As a follow up to the band’s magnum opus Aja, Guacho struggles to find its footing. Moments of this album standout, but most of the songs on this album feel underwritten. It’s hard not to feel let down by this.
I've never heard or will hear anything with as much finesse as this album. The emotions it packs are timeless and you can barely tell that it's coming close to 50 years old with the silky smooth production.
Beats are great for the most part, but no one sounds like they’re trying overly hard on their verses.
Olivia Rodrigo takes her bitchy attitude from Sour and adds more ambitious song structures. Not everything pays off and the chorus is kind of annoying, but it comes together enough.
Swans comes back with possibly their final album, show Gira’s continued excellency when it comes to instrumental layering and paying off the utterly insane track lengths.
This album is really fucking funny for no reason. Thats pretty much it's only redeemable quality.
Will Wood part 2
I’m just disappointed.
This album actually surprised me. Will Wood improves drastically on the first three tracks on this album. His singing is consistently much better and the production across the entire project is way better than Everything is a Lot. Cotard’s Solution even reaches a point to where I would consider it a pretty decent song. The chorus is by far Will Wood’s best, as aide from being slightly confusing in terms of writing and he doesn’t ... read more
Ugh. Nothing about this song works. Dream tries to make a song of the summer while honoring the late Technoblade. Instead of a heartwarming tribute, Dream makes a shitty pop anthem as a cash grab.
