Process is one of my personal favorite RnB albums, so I was really excited to listen to Lahai when Spirit 2.0 first dropped. I'm happy to say it didn't disappoint. While not the most conceptually or instrumentally daunting albums, Process still managed to stand out to me with Sampha's knack for catchy hooks and simple and clean instrumentals. Lahai shows Sampha further develop his artistic skills. He introduces more complex instrumentals, all complemented by skipping drum beats accompanying ... read more
Why listen to Ken Carson when you could listen to any other rage artist? Nothing about his style stands out against the competition aside from the beats, which are the only thing on here that’s decent. If your going to do rage, you have to have some interesting presence on the track and Ken Carson just fails at that.
Once again Drake comes in with another cash grab. The real kicker? He actually tried a bit with this. Drake has long been criticized due to his styles by his peers in the rap game to his own dismay. While the first half of this record shows Drake doing decently to branch out from his previous styles, the second half sees him going right back to his old ways. It’s hard to take drake seriously when he tries to make a serious record for himself, but can’t get himself past rapping about ... read more
This is the type of thing I wish labels would do more. Just giving someone with the talent necessary to pull something like this off just gives good music. Madlib is the producer goat and this album cements that fact easily.
You are not Drake ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ðŸ˜
Edit: Annoying vocals, uninspired instrumentals, boring lyrics. The whole indie rock package. Thirty-three minutes long and it's creatively bankrupt as soon as the first song starts. Why did Drake have to drop at 6am and better yet, why did I stay up and listen to this?
All the songs here are underwhelming for the most part. I wasn’t expecting the nu metal pet in the third song, but it still isn’t that good. Not a great showing from their next record so far, but I think there could still be some cool stuff in it.
My favorite ginger boy is back and… wait… he actually made an enjoyable record this time. To my pleasant surprise, I enjoyed this one for the most part. With Ed being done with his album contract, he finally gets to have some more personal input and builds off of what he was doing on the better tracks of -. Just fall into it and and you’ll have a good time.
This is stupid and pointless. These drumless versions are only going to change the feel of RAM's tracks slightly. It's just a cash grab and I could only see this thing as a novelty that Columbia is using to scam money out of people.
Jehnny Beth, lead singer of Savages, brings a solo project of electro-industrial rock like she has done previously with Savages. This LP tackles themes of sex and toxic romance in an appropriate, if stale idea. Yeah this type of dirty sex industrial music has been around for a long time, but Jehnny still manages to pull together her own style here. No ideas pan out wrongly here and it flows together nicely. Its nice and underrated. Give it a listen.
Very dark sound scape with one of Coke’s dreariest deliveries yet. It’s great, highly recommend.
Crazy LP! Viagra Boys are at their best when they make dance-punk songs that melt your brain when you listen to them. Baby Criminal and Return to Monke are both fantastic tracks and most other cuts can keep up in quality. Only thing I didn’t like here was the end of Big Boy. Unnecessary and Jason Williamson’s voice is grating. Fantastic record overall.
Pretty decent 30 minute LP. Mitski doesn't do anything insane or mind blowing here, just kinda mellow. And that works to and extent. This LP is supposed to be more introspective, but those moments blend together too much with the less important songs. The songs often lack any interesting changes or developments and when they do, they feel disappointing. I don't know. I say all that, but I still thought this thing was fine. It would probably shrink on me on relisten so we'll just leave it here.
Sounds like something off utopia. SZA kills it, and Drake? Well… he’s fine I guess. Hope this isn’t the direction for the new album, but I’m glad this is here.
This is literally girl Pinkerton.
GUTS is a really solid project throughout with noticeably improved production when compared with SOUR's at times shaky presentation. The punkier songs are great and they work well with Olivia's style. The first half is very consistent and I really have no problems with it. The second half is shakier with some of the tracks dragging a bit (namely love is embarrassing, even though its only two and a half minutes). I enjoyed how Olivia didn't just keep her same ... read more
Uh, okay. In terms of positives, I like the album cover a lot. In terms of negatives, yeah there's a lot. Teezo's vocals are annoying on this project an the writing doesn't help with that at all. The rock elements of this project just don't come together in any truly meaningful way and the rap aspects barely come through as well. Yeah it comes up with a lot of different ideas, but it fails to capitalize on them and just results in a bunch of half-assed songs that I don't want to go back to.
J.I.D. is too good now. Like he shouldn’t be carrying music as hard as he does, but his presence literally just makes things instantly better. The songs still good I just can’t not focus on J.I.D.
