Skrillex - F*CK U SKRILLEX YOU THINK UR ANDY WARHOL BUT UR NOT!! <3

"SMOKING IS BAD FOR YOUR HEALTH, ESPECIALLY IF WHAT YOU ARE SMOKING IS YOUR OWN FLESH"

Veryyyyy different genre to what I'm used too, but honestly this is pretty great even as an entry to this sort of sound !

Yung Lean - Jonatan
68

While the listening experience is hardly a bad one, sonically the album doesn't do enough interesting things for me to feel too positively towards it. The tracklist does provide a few highlights, but even they don't inspire much replayablity outside of the album as a whole.

Jonatan is a solid project, but Lean has shown that he can do better and I don't find much reason to come back to this.

Boldy James - Murder During Drug Traffic
38

Started writing a review, but music put me to sleep and when I woke up realised there is basically nothing worth writing about…

Production is lack lustre, Boldy occasionally has moments of intrigue but even then I struggle to keep my focus for an entire track.

Lambrini Girls - Who Let the Dogs Out
70

Oh I need more…

Energy hardly describes it. Abrasive sounds of punk with songwriting that walks the line of sincere anger and tongue-in-cheek delivery really well. It surprisingly never comes off as cheesy and its messages are heard loud and clear. But the sheer personality of the record prevents the mostly naked messaging from being preachy to the point of sermon. It’s communal fustration, it’s in your face, and most obvious of all, it’s fucking FUN!

That being said, ... read more

The Murder Capital - Blindness
62

The murder capital, what a name. It evokes such a emotion and as a phrase of protest feels so powerful. I wish the music held up to those expectations.

While lyrically the album sure does have its moments (even if they feel few and far between), the album itself comes off as surprisingly numbed due to a weird lack of effective sound progressions. Instrumentally it feels strong in isolation, but there is such few variety of sounds that when listening to the album as a whole, it quickly falls ... read more

Lyrical Lemonade - All Is Yellow

⭐️⭐️⭐️

Tracks on these types of albums tend to be pretty hit-or-miss, and this isn’t really an exception. It’s the unfortunate fate of this style that modern greats like JID bringing raw talent is held back by lesser rappers like $NOT simply existing.

That being said there are some really high highs here that largely overshadow the weaker tracks. The project starts really well and ends even better, and a few songs in the middle I could definitely see myself returning ... read more

Travis Scott - DAYS BEFORE RODEO [Reissue]
73

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

With Days Before Rodeo’s recent release on streaming, I decided to revisit the project, curious on how I would think of it now as lately I have come to see Travis Scott as one of the more overhyped artists of this generation. However, I was pleasantly surprised to find that this still holds up as one of his stronger works.

While the project’s second half pales hard in comparison to the first, it isn’t bad by any means (even if there is maybe 1 skip ... read more

Future - WE STILL DON'T TRUST YOU
40

⭐️⭐️

Ok I’m just going to admit it right now. I prefer this to WDTY. It feels a lot more experimental for both Metro and Future, and while it isn’t AS consistent as its predecessor, it has a lot more identity in both of their discographies. That being said, near 90 minutes is WAYYYY too long for this project. BUT with that extended length, I find a lot more moments of enjoyment here compared to WDTY even if they aren’t quite on the same level as the other ... read more

Future - WE DON'T TRUST YOU
34

⭐️⭐️

I really like Metro Boomin as a producer and Future is a solid artist who definitely has his moments, but I’m sorry I just can’t get into this project. I have heard this album a good number of times now, and each time I go in with an open mind hoping to find what everyone else seems to love, but it’s just so… boring. A lot of the tracks lack individuality, and it’s often just a slog to get through. While it works somewhat as background music, the ... read more

Dillom - Por cesárea
78

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Imma be honest, I don’t speak Spanish, I have no idea what Dilliom is saying here and what the album is about if it’s about anything, and I have not chosen to look into any of that at all.

But I don’t really need to know any of these things to really enjoy this album and recognise its quality. The production and vocal performances carry the listening experience above your average abstract Hip-Hop album, and the blend of other genres makes for a ... read more

RM - Right Place, Wrong Person
83

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Before I give my thoughts on the album I should probably state that I am not at all familiar with K-Pop, so my prior knowledge on the band BTS and more specifically RM is extremely limited. I’ve never hated the genre or band, I just have too little experience to have an opinion, but I will admit that the little I have heard didn’t leave a strong impression on me and as a result I expected very little from this project. I will now happily admit that I was ... read more

21 Savage - american dream
50

⭐️⭐️⭐️

He’s got solid production. He’s got decent flows. He’s got passable features. He’s got…actual he doesn’t really have much more.

21 Savage is a name that gives me some level of excitement when I see it listed as a feature, but I have never really found the need to deeply explore any of his solo records. Unfortunately “American Dream” only manages to live up to my middling expectations for it without being able to surpass them ... read more

Little Simz - Drop 7
35

⭐️⭐️

The overall discography of Little Simz is one that I have a lot of respect for, and because of this I’m not TOO bothered by her decision to drop a 14 minute EP experimenting with such a new sound. But I would be lying if I said I wasn’t disappointed.

It’s only 14 minutes so it never feels like a waste of time, and it’s definitely a better and more interesting release than Dominic Fike’s EP of the same length, but it only really has two tracks I would ... read more

The Vaccines - Pick-up Full of Pink Carnations
30

⭐️⭐️

I have pretty little experience with “The Vaccines” but honestly the few tracks I had heard from them in the past did impress me and I have since thought of the band as underrated, so I was initially intrigued when I saw they released a new album. Then I saw the rating and I grew a bit concerned, but curiosity got the better of me and I decided to try it out. And honestly the opener delivered and I was immediately ready to defend the album.

Then the rest of the album ... read more

Cage the Elephant - Neon Pill
46

⭐️⭐️

I quite enjoy a fair bit of the band’s work. As far as the Indie-Rock scene has to offer, “Cage The Elephant” has stood above a good majority of the genre, most notably because of their 3 most recent albums. But this was a pretty big disappointment.

It’s not a bad listen, in fact it can be quite pleasant at times, but it feels too scared to give us anything particularly memorable. Sonically it’s just too safe to have much of an impact past the moment ... read more

Kanye man, wtf happened.

There is honestly very little to like here. When it isn’t trying to get reactions through controversy, it’s just painfully dull a lot of the time. In fact I would argue that literally every song from the first half of the tracklist is a miss that I never feel particularly interested in returning too. And while it’s technically a collaboration album, every song feels more like a (feat. Ty Dolla $ign) than a collaborative project, though that ... read more

Dominic Fike - 14 minutes
27

⭐️

Unpolished and lacks anything particularly interesting. I mean it’s only 14 minutes… what’s the point of releasing it like this?? The whole project just kinda feels lazy and there isn’t really anything else to it.

For as popular as Dominic Fike is, it doesn’t feel like he has much to offer as an artist, which is a shame considering how enjoyable a lot of his stuff is. I just wish there was more to him?

twenty one pilots - Clancy
67

⭐️⭐️⭐️

3 years since their underwhelming “Scaled and Icy”, the duo returns to the musical world with a sequel album that attempts to reconnect us to the world of arguably their most critically acclaimed project, 2018’s “Trench”. It’s an undoubtedly bold decision that seems to work just as much as it fails.

While TØP made quite an impact on my younger years of listening to music, as I grew and my taste matured from expansion, I started to ... read more

Maruja - Connla's Well

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Hey guys, been gone for a while and was hoping to make a return to posting here regularly as my album listening has been lacking lately. So I figured there was no better way to return than with the follow-up release of my favourite project of 2023, ‘Knocknarea’ by Maruja.

After their previous debut, I was dying to hear what would come from the band in the coming years, and I was honestly surprised how little time I would have to wait. But I will admit, the ... read more
