Immature, unimpressive and annoying.
Even before the beef Drake was always childish, never reflected in any meaningful way and moves his ass around like a 5-year-old to petty to acknowledge he did something wrong. Those tendencies only worsened after he got utterly seated by Kendrick, now he throws out the “I’m hated”, “it’s lonely at the top” and “look who switched up on me” cards even more, instead of actually addressing and working through his ... read more
Straight to the point and absolutely spot on.
While I’m also a sucker for more abstract lyrical content and lyrics, I also appreciate it if someone can directly point out issues and doesn’t mince their words. Genesis Owusu has never been a stranger to being socially aware or critical, but on “REDSTAR WU & THE WORLDWIDE SCOURGE” he goes further and lays out a concept of on one hand his frustration and even hatred for people like Elon Musk, Trump or the general ... read more
What happened?
Periphery was almost always a band that knew how to make djent / progressive metalcore but on here there are only flashes of what made most of their previous work great. I mean it is not necessarily bad, just unimaginative, by the numbers and stale a lot of the times. While this album has all the parts that could in theory make a good album, there is just no creativity felt like on the rest of their albums, and I can tell you exactly why that happened. In an interview Misha ... read more
Indonesian vegan straight edge metalcore.
The Indonesian scene has been so great lately with bands like Right On Target or Ezalor. I don’t have to tell you about the lyrical content of a vegan straight edge band, I only have to emphasize, that it is sick as hell. The riffage, the vocals and the drum work all go hard and leave not much to be desired. Especially the moments where the riffage gets to shine are the most interesting ones and make for a big highlight to me.

What @Kedux said.
Vulcano themed straight edge with a car speaker mix sounds like a great idea and it sounds exactly like that. Just great blaring hardcore about the fucking Vesuvius, like it doesn’t get more hardcore than this. Normally I would criticize a mix like this, but the blasted-out speaker sound complements the energy and riffage nicely, so I’ll just enjoy it.
Overall, I really love their thematic approach and how well it compliments their sound.
Yummy, more melodic metalcore.
I feel like I’ve said these words a thousand times already, but that doesn’t mean they become less true to me: fantastic, melodic riffage, great screams, amazing pacing, the energetic drumming and man do I love the spoken word parts. They hold a special place in my heart in this genre, probably due to my love for Misery Signals, but that’s beside the point.
Just too many amazing releases I listen to.
Once in a blue moon I actually like a trap album.
Maybe it’s because he mixes in stylistics of rock, maybe because he has a more unique voice, maybe because he has more interesting flows or is it because he has more interesting lyrical content than most other mainstream rappers. While it isn’t anything revolutionary, you rarely see a trap album being so versatile or of high quality. Especially his more melodic flows and hooks sound great. But the main highlight as mentioned is the ... read more
Thanks for the recommendation @vorgossos.
What an ass beater of an old school metalcore release. Catchy and crushing riffage, amazing drums and pissed off vocals. I have absolutely nothing to complain about, even the features, especially the Words Of Scáthach (I still need to review their EP, I hope I can find time sooner or later for that) one is perfectly interwoven into their respective song. The main highlight I finally want to conclude to is the atmosphere, built by the crunchy and ... read more
Beatdown and brutal death metal just goes together like mornings and coffee.
Drawing influence from bands like Dying Fetus this Hannover band does not take a halt at all. Slowdowns for days, devastating riffs and brutal vocals. What else do you want from this type of music? Whilst this Demo is merely 5 minutes, it feels like it is over in the beat of an eye, making me wish for more or simply replaying it again. Especially the riff variety, tempo changes and creative song structure make this ... read more
Silly in all the best ways.
Why has no one before thought of “43% Turnt”? Anyways, as that title suggests this is mathcore in all its weird and technical glory. My Sword! My Sword! come out swinging on their debut EP with chaotic, youthful and sassy couple of tracks. While they stay truthful to their obvious influences (TDEP in particular, who would have thought), the sassy and playful energy they pull off makes this so much quirkier and more unique.

Example number 2 this year, why we need more Have Heart worship.
What is there to say, except that this is amazing melodic hardcore / hardcore punk. Higher pitch vocals with amazing riffage and melodies, combined with excellent drumming all the way through. 10 minutes, 4 songs and all of them sound great in their own right. Especially the lead melodies sound fantastic to me and enhance everything done right here.
If you like Have Heart, give this a shot (and the Broken Bonds EP this year).
Bottlenecked by production, but overall way better than I could have hoped for.
This is my first time hearing of idle threat. I saw someone (I don’t know who anymore) compare them to Counterparts and Arm’s length on Twitter, so I had to check this out. While I fail to see a lot of parallels between this band and those mentioned, I still really enjoyed it. Cleans and screams work well in tandem on here, creating a simultaneously intense and catchy basis for the album, fed by some ... read more
I had to turn down the volume on both my PC and my Apple Music, to prevent ear damage.
I honestly don’t know what I listened to here, this is such an absurd, over the top and fucked up in all the right ways album, that I am honestly speechless. The best way I can articulate how this feels is utter overstimulation. It is fun, challenging and might give you a headache, but I love that they went all the way for that. The sheer number of genres attached to this thing, ranging over extreme ... read more
What a record, huh? Captain it’s still the first minute.
Well, this wasn’t on my bingo card. I knew I would love this album, since the singles were phenomenal, but I didn’t expect it to be a ten. Sometimes I feel like I’m too generous, but then I look at what I rated so highly and think: “Nah, I just love this” and this is one of those cases. I originally was hesitant to give this a ten, but after a few more listens, I couldn’t deny it anymore. This is ... read more
I like the idea, but the execution lacks a bit.
The idea to take thall, an already atmospheric and open sounding genre, and focus more on that sounds good to me in theory and I see a lot of glimpses that go there on here as well, especially on the lead single and opening number “Dove” or the second song “Eyes seeing eyes”. But the main shortcoming is their unwillingness to diverge a bit from the sound and structure established on these first two songs and thus sadly ... read more
Cute cat cover, I’m in.
But I’m not only here for that, since Basement has been in my opinion a really underrated band since forever. I basically love their whole discography, and this is no different. They might not be the most out there band, but they consistently make great alternative rock / emo records that hit the sweet spot of being catchy, fuzzy, light-hearted and also having heartfelt lyricism. Especially on this record I appreciate the fuzzy mix, making the record feel ... read more
A slight step down, compared to their last record.
I understand that it is hard incorporating a new (really, it’s an old one, but they haven’t worked for 11 years together) vocalist into a band, so I won’t go too hard into the comparison of Heike and Lisas vocals, since they are both great and I personally just like Heikes vocals more. For the most part this is a normal Draconian album (so very good), amazing doomy and gothic atmosphere (as the genres imply) with great vocal ... read more
Everybody said it, I’ll say it again because it’s true: hardcore kids make the best pop punk.
Especially after the second single for this album “What I’m Worth”, I looked forward to this album a lot and it absolutely delivered. While their first album was phenomenal, this might be on par, if not better for me. The sincere and honest lyrics combined with catchy melodies and energetic, bouncy instrumentals are just perfect. I also really enjoyed how all the tracks ... read more
Solid, basic, hard.
Sacred Paths debut EP consists of a couple of little bit slower, at times beatdown-esq metallic hardcore of songs, that yes are basic in hindsight but are well played and go hard. The whole band makes a great first impression and promises more to come on future releases.
So far, I’m intrigued and interested to see where this band will go in the future.
Yet another band dropping new music after almost a decade.
Forced Order are a highly underrated band from the 2010s, especially their last record “One Last Prayer” was great. Now almost nine years later they are back with a new EP and the same energy. While on one hand it is great that we are back at the high we left off, it is also slightly disappointing that there isn’t anything that we haven’t seen from them already in their 2010 releases. This EP is basically an ... read more
