Can of Bliss - u r all fucking losers and also im better than u
73

You know what? This could've been soooo much worse. I was worried going into this that it was gonna be "too quirky" for my liking, but I think the project did what it intended to do pretty well.

The first two songs got me scared, going back to what I said about quirkiness, and even then I enjoyed hot chip's structure quite a lot. The guitar shreds, the mix of autotuned and more raw vocals, along with a chaotic midi keyboard make this song a nice treat. And hey, he's ... read more

Jane Remover - Revengeseekerz
84

Edit 2: 75 > 84. I was being too harsh, the highs are still very high, but the lows can get droning.

Edit: 89 > 75. It's too stimulating, I can't get with it easily. It's great music it really is, but it's so inaccessible. Wes Anderson makes great movies but I don't love any of his films (that I've seen). Jane Remover makes great music... but so much of it is hard to truly appreciate.

2hollis - star

Edit 95 > 86 - Okay maybe I overreacted a liiiittle

No, you don't get it, and that's okay. This is some of 2hollis's hardest production of all time. The vision is there. Some inconsistent tracks, yeah absolutely. But the production with the same confidence behind the vocal delivery, he's evolving his sound and I fucking love it.

I loved boy because the sound felt so fresh, and I feel the same way for this album. If you don't love it, come back to it with a new ... read more

Skrillex - F*CK U SKRILLEX YOU THINK UR ANDY WARHOL BUT UR NOT!! <3

I gotta play Black Ops 2 again....

Yeah so I'm not too tapped into EDM, but this just sounds like a cool set. Some of those old 2000-2012 sounds are electric as ever, but nostalgia isn't even the driving factor of this album. Everything is so fresh, each tracks flows pretty beautifully into the next, even on tracks with less to offer like SLICKMAN and SQUISHY CLIP there's this clear understanding of the album's shifting energy that Skrillex utilizes well. When heavily ... read more

Weatherday - Hornet Disaster

This is a gas pack and I don't really know how else to describe it. It rocks, it fucks, it sucks, it's pathetic, it's cathartic.

Hornet Disaster is such a brilliant blend of Noise Rock and Emo, the rock production and emo vocals really mesh beautifully. The guitars really shred on this thing, and the drums are great fill too, but there's something in this production that makes it so much noisier that I can't really put into words that really makes the grandiose ... read more

Verplex - Furry Youtubers

Somehow I found this by searching "Youtubers" and not "Furry" and thought it would be funny to log.

Disclaimer: I really don't fw Future Bass anymore, and this really didn't offer up much new to the genre. The whole compilation is a mix of Future Bass and some Dubstep and it's all just pretty uninteresting. Each song name is a different furry youtuber, and the track will feature some of that youtuber's voice ripped from one of their videos, so ... read more

Men I Trust - Equus Asinus

Men I Trust feels like a cheat code for relaxing music. Yeah man it sounds heavenly with beautiful reverbed guitar chords and soft dreamy vocals. What else do you want from me. It sounds very similar to most of their other music and it's still amazing. Fuck youuuuuu.

Magdalena Bay - Imaginal Disk
98

Just so dreamy. A pinnacle of lush, otherworldly pop.

I have to admit this album took too long to reach my heart, I've told others I had to give this full thing at least 4 listens before I truly understood what made it so incredible. I don't know why either. They're truly in a league of their own. I'm only giving it a 98 instead of a 100 because it took me sooooo long to catch the vibe. I'm a bit stumped on this review for trying to describe *why* it didn't click ... read more

Chappell Roan - The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess
90

Okay I'm not gonna relisten to the whole album, just gonna drop my 90 and move on. It was such a camp revival in all the same ways I love SMILE by Porter: unapologetically true to itself. Each track reads more as a story than they do a moment. There's a lead up to each grandiose chorus which only cements the song's tagline in my head.

Her voice isn't as otherworldly as some other singers, but she knows how to use her voice much better than the average pop star. Her vocal ... read more

Playboi Carti - MUSIC

Edit 40 > 58. It has some value and I was being too much of a hater. Rage is hard to mess up that badly. There is still not a lot of sustenance, but again, rage.

Nothing of value. Nothing abhorrently dogshit, but nothing worth spending time on either. Washed artists please stop releasing albums with over 20 songs just to boost streaming numbers. Wack.

Incredibly forgetful album, even if 4 or 5 songs out of this bunch end up growing on me, it'd still mean 25 songs are mega ass and the ... read more

Paris Texas - They Left Me with a Gun

On first listen I would've rated The Sword higher, but honestly I'm in love with almost every song on the track list, everything but Twin Geeker is sticking with me. Not sure why the H A L O score is so low but honestly the verses are forgettable I suppose.

Anyway yeah they're pioneering this genre as far as I'm aware of. These simple muddy guitar leads always get to me, they sound so amazing layered on top of the production. I just said this on my review for The Sword ... read more

Paris Texas - They Left Me with the Sword

Even though I haven't really been coming back to their work much as of recent, these two have some of the most excitable and vibeable sounding rap projects as of recent. Rap rock is such an untapped genre for me and these two really represent the potential in it well. They're always bringing a delivery that shows how much they're having in the studio on top of a production that invokes an assertive vigor in my soul. Tantrum might be my favorite rap song of the year so far. I ... read more

Yeah you know what, Critic and User scores kinda nailed this one.

I have this general disdain for Emo music because I get a sense of inauthenticity (or possibly too much authenticity?) from artists who try too hard, especially noticeable in vocals and scratching production, something hard to listen too simply for the aesthetic. Or alternatively, the themes are too simplistic and baseline for the genre, mixed with a lackluster inhibition to truly create anything noteworthy sonically. MGK I ... read more

Rebecca Black - SALVATION
83

Oh yeah baby, Rebecca Black is getting real good at building up energy and having it explode at just the right moments.

I remember when TRUST! first came out and I just thought it was fine, nothing truly daring or revolutionary, but I've totally flipped. I'm in love with the dichotomy of the stress-inducing production with the soothing vocals, ultimately leading up the highs of this cheeky, yelly vocal delivery she uses for the post chorus. The shifts in energy are exactly what the ... read more

Frizk - I LIKE CHANGE
72

I LIKE CHANGE is a bouncy melodic house/synth pop tape with some earwormy choruses, falling in line with Frizk's previous discography. The production is always very uplifting and easy to listen to, house beats and synths that often lead to a snazzy little bridge that defines the song. I can see these songs working best for someone determined to keep focus on personal work, as the synths and snares keeps headphones users entranced. This excludes the final track "Leave me ALONE" ... read more

RAYE - My 21st Century Blues
82

Oh the vibe of this album is so lively and playful. Her voice is so amazing and the sound engineering only enhances how commanding she sounds, crisp vocals all the way through. The theatrical framing paired with some orchestral production really makes the whole listening experience feel as grand as RAYE wanted it to be. The choruses are so catchy but remain so fresh after many many listens. The pacing makes these songs really come alive, as slow builds and sudden halts keep the listener ... read more

Ally Evenson - BLUE SUPER LOVE

It took me a really long time to figure out my exact feelings about this album, my apologies in advance if any of this comes off as unnecessary hating.

I tried too hard to like some parts of this album. Two tracks in specific I tried too hard to like were "One Trick Pony" and "Virtual Bottle". There's nothing really *bad* about the songs, and I originally enjoyed the tracks for being unique in their own rights. However once I added them to my playlist, I quickly ... read more

Geordie Greep - The New Sound

I'll be honest, there are already some reviews in here that could explain this album's contents so much better than I could, because damn this project does it all. Honestly, where do I even start, what can I touch on that the album can't simply show you? I'll try for a bit.

The genre blending is absolutely insane. Prog, jazz, and Latin rock making for some of the most chaotic blends of instrumentals imaginable, and we're gonna throw in heavy bossa nova influence, just ... read more
