Jordaan Mason - Divorce Lawyers I Shaved My Head

wish i knew this existed a long long time ago

Big Bear - Doin Thangs

100 on the artwork if it's any compensation mr bear

Daughters - You Won't Get What You Want

Fuck Alexis Marshall and fuck the rest of this band, but I can't deny that this is perfect. It's a shame shitty people can make masterful art.

dälek - From Filthy Tongue of Gods and Griots

Pretty easily my pick for the greatest hip-hop album of all time, and without a doubt one of the best pieces of music I have heard in general. Cannot say enough good things about how perfectly weaved every aspect of this album is.

Current 93 - I Have a Special Plan for This World
100

Contrary to the words being spoken this album is NOT very funny

Cocteau Twins - Heaven or Las Vegas
99

Y'know I really deserve to be slapped across the face for thinking this was mediocre for so long

Weezer - SZNZ: Spring

this nerd has gone far too long without a swirlie or noogie

Black Country, New Road - Ants From Up There

It's not really easy to articulate the emotions brought on by this album. I loved this band's first LP, but this blows it out of the water to a ridiculous degree. I think most people expected this group to go places, but the ability and talent they've shown on this record pushes way past the mark of expectations. I've seen a lot of people compare this to other bands, most notably 2000s indie groups like Arcade Fire and GYBE. I think these comparisons are justified, there's a clear inspiration ... read more

Joanna Newsom - Ys

I regret putting this off for as long as I did. One of the entry level music nerd albums, on the level of Deathcon or Aeroplane of simply being a mandatory listen for anyone getting into more indie stuff. Now that I've finally gotten to it, I can say that it exceeds the hype. This is one of the most beautiful things I have ever heard. Your body leaves your soul and takes you on a trip through blossoming meadows and rushing currents. This is a big one.

Frontierer - Oxidized
NR

This is really good! It just gets tiring after a while. The sound Frontierer went for on this album is both interesting, and super unique for metal as a whole. I just feel like it's a little too long for what little variety it has. It's good, but by the end, I just feel kinda tired and a bit bored of the constant noise.

The Birthday Party - Live 1981-82
100

I suppose "Unhinged" would be the perfect single word description of this album. This is chaotic to an extent that very few albums dare to even approach, every instrument sounds like it's about to explode from the sheer force they're extending them to and Nick himself genuinely sounds like he's out of his damn mind. This is just disgusting. Blood and bile soaked filth. I am fucking mystified by it.

Taylor Swift - 1989
99

Being a 2002 baby, a LOT of my early teens was spent hearing songs from this record. I pretended to hate it at the time, being a real bad ass cool kid. Entering adulthood now, I can safely say I love every second of this.

It's not ground-breaking, it doesn't take too many risks, and it's somewhat generic; sure. But if you've ever had some good ass vanilla ice cream, you know that in it's purest form, it can contend with all of the more extravagant flavours. There is perfection to be found in ... read more

Kate Bush - The Dreaming

I admittedly don't care for the first half of this too much, but the second half is super fucking dope. Might need a few relistens to get those first few tracks to fully click, I really wanna enjoy the whole thing as much as I enjoyed the latter half.

Standing On The Corner - Red Burns
95

Could have been a 99; hell, could have been a 100 maybe. I can't in good conscience rate this any higher however because the vocal snippets sound like Gummibär and it makes me very upset

Lil Ugly Mane - VOLCANIC BIRD ENEMY AND THE VOICED CONCERN
89

A bit inconsistent at points, but the highs are some of Travis' best work to date. Porcelain Slightly may not only be the best song of his entire career, but I can easily see it remaining my favourite of the entire year by the end of all things. Masterpiece of a track, and the rest of this is generally pretty great too, a few duds aside.

Converge & Chelsea Wolfe - Bloodmoon: I
90

I get why some people may be disappointed in the direction Converge went with this release; it's atmospheric and melodic, basically the opposite of the work that attracted their fanbase.
Me? I think this is not only an excellent change of pace, but one of their best albums period.

JPEGMAFIA - LP!
100

JPEGMAFIA comes through with maybe his best hip-hop album to date, and makes me once again ask 2 questions:
1. Will 2021 go down as one of the best years for music ever?
2. Will I ever stop changing my AOTY pick? Because this now marks the 5th album I have thought would for SURE be the best of the year.
Absolutely fantastic

Magdalena Bay - Mercurial World
99

Critic score as of right now is a 69/100
this is proof that critics are the mosquitos of the music industry
anyway this is fucking grogeous :))
