Sure, its got an awesome tracklist, and also it's awesome to have the 8-track version of Pigs on the Wing finally on something, but this is a total cash grab release if I've ever seen one. Not cool Sony. I don't think Pink Floyd circa 1973-1977, especially Roger, would be a fan of this. Yet another one of several cash grab compilations in their discog (A Collection of Great Dance Songs, Works, etc.) If you're a Floyd fan, you own all of these except this version of Pigs on ... read more
I can’t believe, in 2026, JPEGMAFIA has made a 52 min record over good beats while whining and saying almost nothing substantial or interesting. Seriously?? The guy who made Veteran less than a decade ago?
Buckle up! This is a long, long review. I have a lot of thoughts about this one...
Some personal context on why I am disappointed with this record: 3 years ago I experienced Scaring the H--s and not only adored that record (in my top 3 of the decade) but I also saw him and Danny on ... read more
HAPPY 60!!
It seems that almost everybody who loves music enough to buy it, chart it, catalog it, rate it, and/or review it has an album or song that "got" them into the whole music fandom. This one is it for me.
Dear reader, Pet Sounds is not only the most fundamental album of my life but it also happens to be really damn good. I don't want to get too deep into the history or why many people love this thing because...its Pet Sounds. You probably already know that. Here's ... read more
A great comp with some great Bruno features. Some of these are from albums that I don't think I would pick up so it was great to get all of these loose tracks together, especially Nothin' on You, Mirror, Uptown Funk, the Finesse remix, a live version Leave The Door Open, and Die With A Smile. I would've preferred a retrospective "so far" greatest hits kinda record (that's probably gonna come eventually) but this is great set of tracks and a fun Record Store Day ... read more

The Rolling Stones' fourth album released in the UK, Aftermath, is a truly great and enjoyable mid 60's blues rock record. It's their first album full of originals. That's really cool for a band that really started off covering that great blues music! A lot of my favorite Stones "deep cuts" land here because this album is just plentiful of really solid tracks that come from a time of their career that's not discussed as much as their legendary late ... read more

Prince and the Revolution deliver yet another great soundtrack to another (apparently) not great movie. Lol. It's yet another great set of versatile pop songs from Prince during his commercial and creative peak. I don't have many thoughts about this album honestly, but here's what I've gathered over the years.
It's pretty cool starting off this record with a medley! It's of four short but sweet tracks, with big mood shifts over these ten minutes or so ... read more
My 100th review on here as of writing! Pretty cool.
Gorillaz are so back with The Mountain! After the simply OK, formulaic, Cracker Island record, with probably just two standout tracks that make it OK and not just a weak record, I wasn't really hopeful for another Gorillaz album to be great anymore. Call me shortsighted but I thought Gorillaz would go on autopilot from now out. This wasn't helped by the singles, which at the time I thought were just solid but nothing I was actively ... read more

Marvin Gaye, the Funk Brothers, and crew come back again to create another sexy soul album after the amazing Let's Get It On a few years prior. It's home to one of Marvin's best songs, the irresitible, longing title track, and 10 other sensual tracks. If you've listened to Marvin's two solo albums before this (three including Trouble Man), you know you're gonna get some beautiful soul tracks, and like its predecessor, this album focuses entirely on those ... read more
31 mins of yet more Bruno Mars pastiche after 10 years of no solo records. This should be a recipe for disaster (or just weakness), right?
I dislike generic pop music. So, on first listen, lead single I Just Might, sounding a lot like what Bruno's been doing for years at this point outside of solo LP's, was a little bit disappointing and not something I was hoping for. Over many listens of that track, I realized its appeal and damn I think I love that song lol. Such a fun banger. Is ... read more
Yay! A new Baby Keem record!
Over the last few weeks I've listened to this album a lot and really "sat with it" so I could wrap my head around this whole thing. I always do this but I highly recommend this guys...unless you don't have time. I gotta rant, so see that at the bottom, I intended to put my rant right underneath this but I realized I should actually talk about the record first.
4 and a half years later, we got Baby Keem's second record. As promised ... read more
A very fun set of new tracks from JVB to wrap up the Hyperyouth era. Not revelatory or anything (also why is the tracks at the beginning! Rah!!) but like No Hands its yet another a fun set of deluxe tracks. The beat on changes goes crazy shoutout to that sample clearance. A fun set of tracks. I hope these guys get a ton of time to tour and experiment with the next record because just like the main album, the potential is pretty big from here on out. Looking forward to it!
Also shout out to ... read more

You know this era of Kendrick was so good when a comp of demos and unreleased songs is still fantastic. Its not surprising though because these are demos of To Pimp a flippin' Butterfly, lol. I love this record for a few reasons. First, there's just a lot of quality here especially on a "demo compilation". 02, 03, and 05 are particularly some of my favorite Kendrick songs ever. And I love these songs not only because of Kendrick's usual great vivid ... read more

This debut from The Mamas & The Papas is a fun 60s pop record and is pretty emblematic of that mid to late 60s counterculture flower power sunshine pop scene. I've mentioned in the past that I'm not really a folk guy (as of right now) so I won't be reviewing it by that perspective, but frankly this album I feel like leans more on pop-pop than heavy folk influence anyways. As a 60s pop record, this is a very classic and great example of that sound. I will say, this ... read more
It's been a treat listening to the Beach Boys' new box set, We Gotta Groove. Despite this period of the band not being a favorite of mine, it was nevertheless a productive time for Brian that created some of his most out-there and innovative tracks to date. The highlights on these albums were career highs for Brian, IMO. And in this set there's a ton of quality! Of course, hearing several of Adult/Child's highlights officially for the first time and in the best quality ... read more

Today is the 30th anniversary of two massive mainstream hip hop albums: the second is 2Pac's mega double album All Eyez on Me! His penultimate record and first on Death Row, this album is a big shift sonically and lyrically compared to his previous work - focusing less on political issues and more songs centered on life and death, making love, and stuff more in the realm of gangsta rap / G-Funk, and living more lavishly "They say money don't make the man, but damn, ... read more

Today is the 30th anniversary of two massive mainstream hip hop albums: first, Fugees' second and final record, The Score. I'm pretty nostalgic for this album, it was one of the very first hip hop albums I consumed start to finish, and it probably draw me in back then because of the massive hits that land here that were part of my childhood on car radio: Ready or Not and Fu-Gee-La. And today I think this album is still great and its commercial success is a big W for 90s ... read more

I'm surely no folk music connoisseur (which I will have less to say than usual because of that), but I always have loved the songwriting and sound of Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel's second record. Simon and Garfunkel's voices coupled with Paul's pretty lyrics and the acoustic sound of this LP. I personally also really like the extra orchestration and production brought to the record as a whole, even to the remixed, unauthorized by Simon or Garfunkel, title track. ... read more
Missing It’s Good to be D unfortunately, besides that this music is pretty damn great
My top 3: Going Down, Moon Men, Hydrogen
My least fav: Dream
Danny's first sober album sounds as clean, fresh, and remotivated as I assume he felt making it. It's not very surprising to me that with this record he's shifted his sound to be more influenced by EDM and hyperpop, he's featured on a lot of songs of the genres recently and he clearly loves this sh-- according to past statements. And It's a breath of fresh air for me as a Danny Brown fan. His new stuff by no means wasn't getting old or anything, but these textures ... read more
After seeing JVB at their free Hollywood show this past July, listening to this album a ton of times since then including when I was in line for said show (Wassup and Live Right were among my top listened to songs this year), and seeing them again in September perform on their HYPERYOUTH tour, I feel very confident that I've marinated with this material to the point where I can report my unbiased feelings about this record 😅 especially with how much I loved No Hands and have enjoyed ... read more
