this song gaps every other song on the album so hard it's crazy
this is a surprisingly solid ep from an artist that deserves to have her potential realized and attended to.
songs like "Jaded" and "Behind Closed Eyes" were stood out tracks for me, such a diverse sound pallet with colorful production all around. i could absolutely see her dropping a banger of an album at some point, or even another ep. loved every second of this.
the genres "Grindcore, Rage" will tell you exactly what you need to know about this.
the first 2 songs are nothingburgers, no clue what he is cooking. song #3 "Memories Unfair" is surprisingly good considering the pattern of the last 2 songs, then it feels like song #4 "Your Friend" tries to keep the momentum "Memories Unfair" had but fails by being really sluggish. this is just a sad trainwreck of a release
shame on spill magazine for AI'ing their review intro. music is for humans, and so is interpreting it. why would I ever read that?
listen, maybe I'm just biased, I cannot escape this guy where I live, I hear him in other cars while I'm driving, I hear him in coffee shops, I hear him in barber shops. Clearly there are people who want this type of music, but it just isn't me. Whatever meaningful lyrics I hear on this and try my very best to connect with it is ruined by what I ... read more
thank you @MichaelLamarche for the rec and song
quite a the potential here, a nice song that stands on its own with quite a grand atmosphere and all the hallmarks for a great song for it's respective genres. love these shoegaze songs that can be described with the word "grand" with the feeling of a lot of space, like walking into a grand cathedral. you could even describe it as space themed with a planet or a black hole. it offers a lot of versatility.
please keep going with ... read more
annoying people on this site will say that this is horrible, other annoying people will say that this is good and we should praise it.
balanced, as all things should be
this doesn't really do anything new, which isn't a bad thing in itself but we have enough of the sound that this album is, i don't see a reason other than numbers to make this
Ah, ambient
it's funny, isn't it? the sheer absurdity of it all. here we are, talking about sound, about music that does everything it can to not talk. no lyrics, just textures, just space, just the careful arrangement of sound. yet, it says so much. more than most albums ever will, i think of it like an alien language, it communicates directly to you, 0 words of any human language, but you can still feel it in your bones. you can't pin it down. you can't say "this song ... read more
I LOVE PROG SOUL SO MUCH
its amazing to me how this album starts and ends with no filler, the album starts precisely when it should and ends exactly when it should as well.
it starts with "walk on by," the first 45 seconds showing you exactly what you're in for. it just keeps going into "hyperbolicsyllabicsesquedalymistic," which is a funky, wordy jam with a lot of versatility considering the genre. and then there’s "one woman," a ballad that feels ... read more
This album touched my spirit, turned it inside out, made me see the afterlife, then I fell from the sky back to where I am. I'd show aliens this album if they wanted to hear music.
this title and album takes inspiration of being born (thus the fetus on the cover), I wrote a poem for it awhile back, enjoy.
I sit here waiting for the day
when one of us will have to pay
for the ending that begins anew

when it carries the dying away

blu & exile is a duo i've heard of but haven't had a reason to get into, until now. this album is great,
blu's lyrics really impressed me. he has more lyrical substance than you'd usually expect from a rapper with the "lyrical" connotation, as in most "lyrical" rappers make you pay attention to their lyrics but don't actually say anything, this feels fully fledged. exile's production is classic boom bap, really ties everything together ... read more
Released in 1991, Slint's Spiderland is a masterpiece to me, and to many others, for very good reason. Yes, It can be hard to recommend because of how experimental it is, but my favorite aspect of any piece of music is its personal connection from listener to musician, and this album delivers exactly that.
The backstory adds so much to the experience. Formed in Louisville, Kentucky, Slint was part of a local scene that produced some incredible, often overlooked music in the late '80s ... read more
above my expectations but still overstays its welcome.
this album is a return of a sound I personally miss, layered vocal r&b. folded is definitely the stand-out track. however, the album does feel a little long, though, and while nothing went wrong with having some fun collaborations like wayne, clipse, missy elliot, and usher, hearing that lil jon t-pain track in 2026 just feels a bit odd.
there's a reason these singles are bundled together. it's a solid concept, really. hearing these songs as a collection makes for a pretty compelling introduction to the band. maybe more artists should look at putting out compilations like this. it feels like a good way to get an idea on what the artist does best, especially when people don't bother listening to whole albums anymore except, you know, this website.
this album does something i'd never thought a rage album could do, get people into rage, and because of that it's clearly special. the production feels like it throws in some genuinely unexpected and unique stuff, like some guitars or maybe some weird keys here and there, but it's quite nice all around. I really appreciate that it manages to feel like a new take on rage, especially from how much the genre feels like it's just recycled the same ideas over and over with every ... read more
ok this irks me.
the sheer audacity of something fitting into grunge/alternative's broad umbrella while simultaneously choosing to be the most bland, least challenging, most universally acceptable noise imaginable is what does it for me. can you believe the genre defined by raw energy, and often, a certain deliberate abrasiveness or anti-commercialism, is being used as a vehicle for creating a sound that actively avoids any of those characteristics. yeah, the ALTERNATIVE/GRUNGE ROCK ALBUM ... read more
I was at the checkout at a record store buying Dummy and the guy looked at me and said "you HAVE to listen to their live album" with a very serious look.
It is that serious, couldn't have been more right. Greatest live I've ever heard. Shoutout to him
