From the moment the opening chords of Alison wash over you until the final strum of Dagger, Souvlaki sends you floating through a dream. A wonderous, comforting dream laid on by the mellow blanket of fuzzy instruments, the melancholic edge to the soft vocals, and the lush yet spacy mixing. Family car journey classic for good reason! U2 kick things off with a bang, launching straight into one of the best opening runs of three out there, rendering it futile to do anything but sing along. The album is only able to regain those dizzying heights with the masterpiece that is Red Hill Mining Town but stays far away from falling flat on its back due the tangible passion and energy continuing to permeate throughout.

Thom Yorke's voice invokes so much passion which is only heightened by the wonderous instrumentation that ranges from chilling to expansive to aggressive to ethereal. A comparatively weak start (which is a crazy thing to say!) leads into one of the best runs of three on any album. Fitter Happier is atmospherically superb as a transition into the consistently ... read more

The energy this album carries is infectious. Impossible to listen without singing along.
