My little brother wanted me to listen to this album. It can totally rock at times and is good music. I wish it was a bit more exploratory or that the tracks differed from each other more. My most major issues with it are things that I just take issue with in most Midwest Emo, the lyrics can be too corny, the instrumentals tend to be formulaic and predictable, and palm muting is fucking abused. As critical as I am of Teens of Style, I wish this was Teens of Style.
Aside from our new additions, the delightful Optimistic Son and Joe Drives Again (which I immediately clocked was The Drum Strikes Back) there is basically no difference. So I absolutely fucking adore this. Listening to this album, the several times I have, gives me great interest in Morphine, Mark Sandman, and Jazz-Rock as a whole. I will listen to more of this in any way I can. Candy is my favorite song off the album and I can’t get enough of it, it’s so incredible. I very much believe that within the next few years we will see a strong rise in alternative country and I’m excited by the idea. Wednesday is a front runner of this era of alternative country (this caucus of slacker rock as well) and I am all about them.
