Lets get one thing straight: the singles for Kims 7th debut are objectively great pop songs. At the same time, Im not sold on the idea of a kim petras renaissance that a lot of people here seem to believe in. Why? Maybe its because the Slut Pop series changed my perception of her as an artist or maybe its because Frost Children are deadass doing most of the work in shaping her current sound.

I really fw with the pitchfork review because Currents sounds like someone aiming beyond just making music, theyre trying to craft MUSIC in its purest, most complete and genuine form. Tracks like “New Person, Same Old Mistakes” and “The Moment” are so disgustingly ambitious that you cant help but wonder what kind of creative energy was flowing in the studio to produce something so intricate and complex.

In a way, I get her pretentiousness and even her more annoying moments, especially around the Eusexua release, because if I had that level of talent, id probably be insuferrable too.
