I listened to this album back in 2023, probably just under 3 years ago. And in those 3 years I’ve not thought about it once, not once considered re-listening and I’m only doing it now because I do feel it’s an ‘essential’ hip hop album, only for east coast hip hop and N.W.A. . It’s just a very safe and secure album. He does nothing differently compared to straight outta Compton, except show up more, the beats are no better and worst of all the good parts of ... read more
Inconsistent yet repetitive. The rapping on this album is pretty good but there are some weak sections. I’ll house you is a good track but a complete different style from the rest of the album and feels out of place. You can see early signs of the native tongues movement but there’s still a way to go before the heights of de la soul and atqc. The promo is a fantastic track though.
You will have heard a sample from this album before, that’s a guarantee. It’s a classic no doubt but does it still hold up today? Here and there. It’s incredibly innovative and a lot different to the other albums coming out in ‘88 but he doesn’t take himself very seriously ... read more
I know this album is highly acclaimed amongst rappers and the inner hip hop circles. Black thought is my favourite rapper and he mentions the ultramagnetic MC’s a lot in his work. But seeing it only 278 ratings I wasn’t going into it expecting the world. But Jesus is this album ahead of its time.
Every single thing from this album screams mid 90s hip hop, so the fact it came out in ‘88 in the times of rakim, BDP, Kane, NWA etc… is just crazy. It’s really ... read more
A real step up from their first ‘album’ . This feels like the teenagers answer to it takes a nation. Eazy E takes a real step back from being the main man in the group after his poor efforts on the first album, and ice cube, Dr Dre and Mc Ren take the reins. It can be hard to decipher Dr Dre and Mc Ren’s from time to time though, their voices and accents are very similar, flows too. Ice cube is the best rapper in the group by some distance, as shown on Gangsta Gangsta, and ... read more
