the fact that this album was released in 2000 is just insane. Thom is an absolute genius and probably one of the greatest musicians of all time. this album is a futuristic yet melancholic masterpiece, containing one of the saddest songs of all time, ‘how to disappear completely', as well as one of the best produced song ever for me 'motion picture soundtrack'... perfection.

"@tistan this isn't really criticism, it’s more of an emotional rant. you keep saying "everything sounds the same" "0 ambition" "no evolution" but you never actually explain what you mean by that. which albums are copying each other? what specific trends or production choices are becoming repetitive? what would "evolution" even look like to you? also reducing an entire scene to "slopfest" just bc most releases didn’t personally connect with you says more about your current burnout with the genre than it does about the actual state of the music."
