I think I was just a little too late for this one. Had I listened to it a few years ago, this would probably be my thing. I didn't though, so I found it a little harder to get through. It's not an album I will ever go back and listen to probably, although there are some songs on it that I will be adding to my shuffle. Which scores it some points. I think the lyrics are amazingly well written. I don't relate to most of them, but that doesn't matter. Still great lyrics. The sound wasn't really my ... read more
This was an interesting one for me. I haven't listened to any other Linkin Park album, but I have heard quite a few of their singles. A lot actually. And I've generally enjoyed most of what I've heard (although they were overplayed so much during my childhood I find them kind of boring now). And nothing I heard on this album comes anywhere close to the quality of those singles I have been exposed to, except for maybe like one song. But I'm not gonna let Linkin Park's other work effect my rating ... read more
So I just gave this album a listen for the first time. And as I suspected, the lyrics really hurt it for me. The only song I found where I really appreciate the lyrics was Sweet Child O' Mine. Which was definitely my favorite song from the album. The rest I just couldn't bring myself to enjoy. Now this isn't entirely due to the lyrics. 80s hard rock has never really been my thing. All that being said, I can respect what this album means for the music industry. It's a classic. It's got tons of ... read more
I admire what Bring Me The Horizon has done with this album. I don't really listen to many genres outside of rock, but the electronic/dance influences on this album (maybe "influence" isn't strong enough of a word) are what keep pulling me back into amo. I just really find myself enjoying this one a lot. And I think their lead singer is right when he says this is an album that fans are gonna have to listen to several times before they fully appreciate it. I find that with every ... read more
So I absolutely love this album. It's so far away from the type of rock I usually gravitate toward, but ever since I heard No Good on my local rock station a few years ago I have been hooked on KALEO. This album has so many amazing gems. I find myself enjoying the lighter ones more. All The Pretty Girls is probably my favorite, followed closely by Automobile and Vor I Voglaskogi (I'm guessing at the spelling of that rn). Speaking of, VIV is such a beautiful song. The lack of understanding the ... read more
So I gave this album a listen for the first time in several months. Back when I first checked it out, it had a pretty big impact on my emotional state at the time. I was in a good place in my life and everything, but it's just such a sad album and it doesn't really have a happy ending. There are very few (if any) uplifting tracks. It deals a lot with mental illness and loss, and those don't always have happy endings. The album reflects that. Remembering all of that, I was absolutely dreading ... read more
I think it's a work of art. It's one of those albums that I kind of forget how much I like it when I go a while without listening to it. And I think going a while between listens is a good thing. It's the kind of album that has a very specific purpose: to help someone get out of a bad place in their life. And I think it does it incredibly well. And my favorite part, and what seals the deal for me, is the very ending. Not only the entire BRILLIANT track that's all about getting back out in the ... read more
