Dead Poet Society - Weapons
85

I was VERY surprised at how much I enjoyed this record. I had first heard of this band back when they opened for Badflower last year. I ended up really enjoying a few of their songs, enjoying the live show even more, and then I pretty much stopped paying attention to them other than one song that I kept on my playlist. Going into Weapons, I expected a very average record. Instead, I thought it was great, especially for a debut EP. The way the instruments were composed to work together is ... read more

Mdou Moctar - Ilana: The Creator
50

I'm giving this a hard 50% because I just don't really know how to rate it. It's not typically the kind of music that I go to. Lyrics also play a huge part in how I review music, and this is in a language I don't understand. I can usually get over that if there's something else that really catches my attention, but that's not the case here. The guitar work was my favorite part. The player's got some talent.

Alestorm - Curse of the Crystal Coconut
86

This was great. I've been listening to Alestorm for a while now, and have really enjoyed their more popular songs. Some have been on repeat. Up until now, I've just assumed they were a singles band. This proved me wrong. I liked every single track, and they all fit together and fit the theme, while still being unique. A lot of people will call this band cringey, but honestly I don't think that's the case with these guys. It might be if they were serious, but they don't take themselves seriously ... read more

Pink Floyd - The Dark Side of the Moon
71

I enjoyed listening to this one. I felt very relaxed and comfortable the entire time, and it gave off the feeling of familiarity that I thought was nice. The transition between the songs was flawless. I really like when an album feels like one big song, and in this case there were several times when I looked up and realized the song had changed a while ago. All that being said, this isn't really my kind of music. I have very little complaints about it, but it's just not what I usually go for. ... read more

Imagine Dragons - Imagine Dragons
48

This EP was better than their debut, but still not great. The overall sound was much closer to Night Visions which is something I enjoy, but the production on this record was very low, damaging my experience quite a bit

Fencer - Growing Up Selfish - EP
75

Everything about this band makes it seem like I wouldn't like it, but for some reason I do. A couple of the tracks really fucking rock. I'm really excited to see where this band goes next. They are the embodiment of young guys just having fun making music, which is an attitude I can respect. They aren't trying to be the next big thing or change the genre. They are just trying to be silly and have fun and makes songs about junebugs because, according to them, junebugs look silly. And I'm all ... read more

Panic! at the Disco - Pray for the Wicked
59

I don't have a whole lot to say about this one. It wasn't bad, and there were a couple tracks I enjoyed, but most of it was forgettable

Imagine Dragons - Speak to Me
43

Yeah this wasn't that good for me. Interesting sure. And it was kind of fun at times. But I'll never listen to it again haha

Avalon Black - The Human Condition
70

Great local band from Flint, MI. This debut EP isn't anything too special, but it's good and it's the kind of rock music I am most comfortable with. Nice modern hard rock with some simple, heavy guitar riffs. I also really like the singer's voice. Very smooth. I'm very excited to see what these guys come up with next. They also put on an incredible live show. If you're ever in the area, be sure to look them up. You won't be disappointed!

Badflower - Temper
77

Really good EP. When I first heard it back in 2018, I wasn't a fan. As I've gotten used to Badflower's style, I've started to appreciate it more. It's still not nearly as great as their debut album, but it's got some killer tracks. Animal is amazing live, and White Noise is one of my favorite songs they've released. This record is the moment Badflower fully embraced the change in tone. It's all about anger. At the world, at yourself, and at others. It's about having a temper that you can't (or ... read more

Ozzy Osbourne - Ordinary Man
52

This was fine. I've heard Ozzy is fantastic, so I expected a bit more from this album, but it seems like fans of his agree that this is a weaker entry in his vast discography. I don't see myself coming back to this one, but I enjoyed a few songs enough to add them to my set.

Soundgarden - Superunknown
58

Well, finally finished my third listen of this one. I liked it quite a bit on my first, got really bored during my second, but now the length doesn't bother me so much. I put it on while I did some prepping for D&D, and I think listening to this in the background while getting some work done is the best way for me to consume this. It doesn't hold my attention enough to listen while playing a game and definitely not while doing absolutely nothing else. It's very slow-paced, which I think is ... read more

Badflower - About A Girl
73

Badflower's debut EP after their name change. You can hear the transition within the record of them going from The Cartunes (light hearted music you can listen to with friends on a roadtrip) to Badflower (a band that writes about dark topics and isn't always hopeful). This EP has both

NOTHING MORE - Madhatter's Bliss
40

For anyone who doesn't understand how Nothing More could be considered progressive rock, I direct you to this EP (and some of their other 2000s stuff). That being said, it's not good prog rock. This EP is just not that great. Every now and then I'll hear something that I kind of like, but it's usually quickly over-shadowed. The only thing that makes this worth listening to is the funk rock track they threw in there (which doesn't fit at all btw). This is an interesting record for hardcore fans ... read more

The Cartunes - Play All Day
84

I really love this EP. It's super light toned, despite dealing with topics such as loss and depression at times. It's very sweet, and I prefer it to Badflower's newer EP. The use of a variety of instruments to drive the sound of this record is my favorite part, and I also love that we have a few different vocalists spread throughout the tracks. I really wish it was officially available somewhere

Melissa Vanfleet - Ode To The Dark
70

It's hard for me to rate EPs like this because they are such a small sample of what an artist is capable of, and they usually are less focused than albums (not in this case though). This was really good. I don't really see myself enjoying the songs on their own, but as part of the EP they all shine in their own way. VanFleet has a gorgeous voice as well, perfectly suited for the style she's going for here. I'm very excited to see an album from her in the future

Jethro Tull - Aqualung
80

I really enjoyed this one. I never once got bored. I enjoyed the singer's voice and his vocal style, and the way all of the instruments played together. Flute was amazing, and fit right in. While there aren't a lot of songs I'll be revisiting individually, this album is definitely going to be getting more listens from me in the future

NOTHING MORE - The Stories We Tell Ourselves
99

Definitely my favorite album. Nearly perfect in my mind. The only thing holding it back from a 100% is Don't Stop, which I just have a hard time enjoying compared to the rest of the songs on this album. I never skip it, but I'm always tempted to so I can get back to the good stuff

Tedeschi Trucks Band - Made Up Mind
42

It wasn't bad. It just wasn't my thing. And I'm sure it's considered really good for those who enjoy this type of music. I feel a little bad giving this a rating, but I'm going to anyway.

Rival Sons - Feral Roots
66

I think this one kind of left me disappointed during the first half. But the songs i enjoyed were great and I'll be keeping my eye on these guys.
