there are a few strong tracks on here such as "poser disposer" and "like a train" but overall, im just not hearing what everyone else is hearing. it's a good album but not quite good enough for me to understand why the scene goes so crazy for this band
an aggressively fun and vibrant hardcore punk album full of endless stage-dive anthems. buggin's debut lp is only 19 minutes long but it feels much shorter with the way it flies by and doesn't at all overstay its welcome
insanely fun hardcore punk album lathered in catchy riffs, bouncy grooves and raw, unhinged energy. i also love the loud, twangy bass that can be heard throughout the entire thing. very strong debut lp
best band in the nottingham scene right now. the slamming beatdown riffs, sharp snare tone, pig squeals and 808 drops are just so nasty and violent
it has its cringe moments but this album is filled to the brim with great harmonized riffs, which aren't usually my thing, and sometimes there's a certain charm to the cringiness. "vendetta" is an iconic tough-guy hardcore anthem but it doesn't do the rest of the album much justice as i was expecting a more laughable experience
a fun but easily forgettable release. i can appreciate the band's high energy but nothing about this album stood out to me
ridiculously raw and punishing grindcore that leaps back and forth between blistering noise and mosh-worthy grooves. i can't decide if i wanna bust a move or bust someone's head open
the riffs may be ignorant but the lyrics are far from it. as much as i love listening to beatdown bands that put on a tough-guy act and write about petty scene beef, it's refreshing to hear a band with such dumb breakdowns reject those tropes and instead write politically-charged music during a time when it's desperately needed
not a bad EP and i had some fun listening to this but angel statue metalcore fatigue is a real thing and unfortunately i have it. while there are some cool riffs and breakdowns, it's nothing i haven't already heard a million times before
while the production has improved a lot, castle rat's second album suffers the same fate as their debut which is that the singles were strong and promising but the rest of it just isn't that interesting and each track starts to blur into one pretty quickly. i feel like the band needs to focus less on the aesthetic and more on the music
a pivotal moment in opeth's discography which marks the beginning of their classic sound with a more refined blend of prog, death metal and folk. it's both hellish and heavenly at the same time
with their groovy riffs, catchy choruses and IQ-lowering breakdowns, bayway have proven themselves to be one of the best in the beatdown scene right now. some of the lyrics are laughably cringe but at the same time, it feels somewhat self-aware and ironic
a few decent tracks on here but for the most part, i found this pretty forgettable and the snare is quite distracting at times. while i love a good trash can snare, not every hardcore release needs it
while it's a step-up in maturity from their debut, this album really didn't do much for me. there are many bands who are able to pull off 20-minute songs but unfortunately, opeth are not one of them. the closing track is decent and i loved the bass lines on this one but overall, it's pretty dull
some real stank-face-inducing riffs here and also some of the best drumming i've ever heard. this album is just nasty and uncomfortable from start to finish, definitely one of my all time favourites
edit: 95 -> 100 this album is perfect
with the uk government arresting people for opposing genocide, racists up and down the country using our flag to intimidate minorities and late-stage capitalism in full effect, this is exactly the album we need right now. following a trilogy of eps, maruja have taken their sound to a whole new level on their debut record, using their intense blend of jazz, art rock and spoken word passages as a weapon against injustice. their musicianship is unreal and each track feels carefully crafted. ... read more
a powerful debut from one of the best to ever do it. this band really knows how to take a simple formula and make it sound larger than life
