Bits and pieces here are quite similar to stuff on Untitled, but this is still an AMAZING album. The bonus tracks on the CD reissue+streaming are ESSENTIAL, definitely do not overlook those two.
Yeah this is like...a REALLY noticable downgrade from his debut. These songs are all pretty good, some WAY more than others, but it just feels a lot more dull in general songwriting-wise and production-wise. It's still a good album, in terms of the vibe it does very much sound like a middle ground between the first album and "Free", but im not amazed by this one. This isn't my favorite album from Rick (that'd be Body & Soul), but every single second of this record is pure dance-pop/synth pop perfection. ...uh, ok. Yeah. I didnt expect this to be fucking eurodance. Not that im complaining at ALL, he pulls it off INSANELY well!!! Im kinda shocked at how good this album is, especially with how disappointed i was with "Colour All My Days". All of these songs are really well written and mastered, the vocals are great as usual, and the album flows well. The main thing here is that these songs have WAY more emotion in them than anything from the previous album, which was my primary ... read more
