REVIEWING KENDRICK LAMAR #2: To Pimp A Butterfly
This has been the most hard review to write for me... And with a good reason, because this is one of those projects that mark a before and after in music.
To Pimp A Butterfly is the continuation of good kid, m.A.A.d city, with a Kendrick who has finally achieved his dream in music, but feels that he has left himself and his family behind along the way. Using as a common thread a poem that develops and expands throughout the album.

This would be peak if it had MC ride rapping on top of it (totally serious)
When Peggy was talking about “claiming his throne” as the experimental rap king, I expected him to make something actually groundbreaking, instead we got him rapping the same triplet flow on top of some of the blandest riddim/tearout drops that'd make half of the dubstep scene feel ashamed.
I kinda enjoyed some of the later bits of this LP, but definitely this project didn’t need to be 25 tracks long. You could cut out half of this album and you won’t feel like ... read more
