Such an emotionally charged and warm album. It expands on the palpable windy, winter vibe that I get from some Mount Eerie and Microphones songs. Phil Elverum hums and sings on a couple of the songs, so in a way it does feel like another Phil album, but I think that Adrian Orange's deeper voice and more straightforward song structure adds a nice twist to it. My favorites on the album are "Welcome", "Marriage", and "Homeless (Rich)", which is certainly the best ... read more
Amazing imagery and just a palpable otherworldly vibe. I love the use of foley and interesting sound design to create an expansive world. It has creepy songs like "The Mansion", bangers like "The Moon", softly spoken sad songs like "I Felt Your Shape", and interesting sound experiments like "Samurai Sword". It truly is a journey and it has everything. I do feel like the middle could be more emotionally engaging, I feel like the album loses a little bit of ... read more
Amazing writing and worldbuilding, such a unique sound. It doesn't have the same cohesive concept-ness of Aeroplane, but it is still amazing and paints a vivid picture. I do really enjoy how this album just has some bops, "Naomi" and "Song Against Sex" have good lyrics, but I think they shine cause they are just bangers in terms of the music, which is usually not the main part of NMH for me. Great album, and I just ignore the song at the end (after listening the first ... read more
No other album can paint such a vivid picture of a dream / alternate reality as much as this one. It doesn't sound like it was made by anyone living on this planet, it just feels "off". It is such an indescribable feeling and it is insane that any art can make me feel this weird. Idk the intentions of the singer in terms of his sexual-fantasy about Anne Frank, but I choose to focus on the yearning to return to a dream theme, which is super interesting. Incredible album, fuck it ... read more
Pleasantly surprised by this album, it is one of the best Joan of Arc albums! It has amazing instrumentals, with the most non-interlude songs of any JoA album. The lyrics are still rambling and purposefully abrasive, but this album has a very clear meaning. I love the mix between experimental indie/electric noise and his emo roots, it is right up my alley. My favorite songs on the album are "A Tell-Tale Penis" and "If There Was a Time #1", they are both just amazing emo ... read more
