From a purely lyrical standpoint, 'shadowbox' is most likely my favorite hiphop project of the year. MAVI reminds me of a slightly more hopeful Earl Sweatshirt.
Introspective, symbolic and in equal parts direct and cryptic. MAVI's writing style hits a almost forgotten spot inside of my soul; if I ever wrote lyrics myself -- I'd probably do it in a similar way.

As one of the rising stars of the phonk movement, DVRST puts out a short but sweet EP to further keep him on the map.
Echoes of Childhood doesn't reinvent the wheel in any way, bit it's enjoyable and solid enough for what it is.
Lush, drifting (pun intended) instrumentals and chopped-and-screwed gangsta rap samples are the clear formula,; which would probably get too repetitive on a full-length album, but its short length prevents that from happening.

I sadly have to admit, that I was a part of the crowd who dismissed the entire 'mumble-rap' (eugh..) movement back in the day.
