An excellent addition to the Deerhunter Discography, this record keeps the higher-energy, punchy feelings of 2015's Fading Frontier, while also returning to some of the darkness of Halcyon Digest. The record flows really well, sustaining energy throughout the listen, beginning with Death in Midsummer's winding arpeggios, through the driving Element & What Happens to People? and ending with the catchy Plains and slower Nocturne.

Cox's songwriting remains stellar, with brilliant quips on ... read more

Unbelievably good record. Earworms abound. Some of the most creative, inventive lyricism as well -- it gives a perfect snapshot of life as a rebellious young person in the 70s. The guitar work is phenomenal, matching perfectly with the biting lyricism.

Listen to this just once and you'll fall in love with the utter fun of tracks like 'Roadrunner,' 'Pablo Picasso,' and 'Girlfriend,' and a few more listens and songs like 'Hospital,' 'Old World,' and 'Someone I Care About' will reveal themselves ... read more

Man I really love the vibe of this record -- it conveys the feeling of open roads, empty spaces, and the joy of exploration better than most country records out there, without even saying a word.

This is great for early mornings, zoning out, or getting work done. Highly recommend.

The vocals fit in just where the need to be, filling in empty space and creating unthinkable harmonies.

The features here are expert-level as well, with Mile High and ... read more

A nice, soft sounding record with a set of very solid tracks. The record feels warm and lush, with wonderful melodies and sounds. My biggest gripe with the record is how uneven it is -- the tracks really do not flow well together, often changing energies too abruptly, or even laying in silence for much too long before a new track comes in. It seems that this is intentional -- but it doesn't work for me.

Taken separately, some of these tracks rank among his best -- in the context of the record, ... read more
