For such a short debut, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs have put together a pretty sharp survey of their capabilities. This isn't a record, it's a portfolio: it's noisy but catchy, it lets them try out different styles, and it makes you give a good goddamn.

The EP barely hints at how great the band has become in the past year, especially since the sound quality is roughly at a firing-a-BB-gun-into-a-garbage-can level.

these guys are a band I really wanna like but this js didn’t click w me at all. I love her voice but the instrumentals are boring and clunky.
Yeah Yeah Yeahs' self-titled EP is surprisingly raunchy, sexually-driven, noisy, punky and energetic with some great writing (except for the "girl/world" lyrics on "Mystery Girl", ugh) and fun vocals from Karen O! It's far from being well-engineered, though, with some noticeably mediocre mixing hampering what are acceptably lo-fi aesthetics.

I am shocked to say I didn't really dig this EP. It's a lot more garage-y than Fever to Tell, and I feel a lot the tracks die out before they can get good. The final track was a fun listen though, and Art Star was definitely unique
