Released in January of 1978, Infinity easily proved to be the band's most cohesive work to date. Dead and buried were the jazz fusion overtones of previous offerings, and with the new songwriting combo of Perry/Neal Schon leading the march, the band set out to completely redefine their sound.
My parents have always LOVED the copious Journey mega-hits, so I grew up with them; but come on, songs like "Wheel in the Sky", "Lights" are pretty cliche products of their time. 70's love song rock ballads with more hair than soul, but perfectly captured plenty of baby boomers' youths who related then and still do.
if steve perry sang moon beam ice cream or beautiful things i would actually like it
This is a fantastic pop rock album imo. Songs like Wheel in the Sky, La Do Da, Patiently, Lights, Somethin to Hide, and especially the standout track of the record, Winds of March, are among this band's finest. This is such a pleasant album to listen to with such great vibes.
While I like the performances on the record, the mixing and production just feel so off to me. The drums and guitars are way too gated, making them have less impact and breathe than they usually would.
