The existence of What The... shows that Greg Ginn can still do Black Flag if he pleases, but listening to it shows why he shouldn't.
In a way, the saddest thing about What The... isn't its glaring shortcomings; it's the fact that, in spots, the record shows real potential.

Despite coming out 28 years after their last album, What The... sounds like the band has severely regressed in the two decades they've been gone. The immediate sign of this is the overall mixing of the album, everything sounds muddy with the vocals getting lost in the instrumentation which also lacks any punch.
