The biggest problem by far is that Karnivool don’t seem to know at this stage what kind of band they want to be.

This is very much in the Tool vein of alternative prog metal, and I like it, though it can feel pretty samey. It feels longer than it is due to a lack of variety between songs, but I like the overall sound of the record. There's plenty of odd time signatures and big soaring choruses, but there's also some nu metal influence sprinkled in that disappears by their next record Sound Awake. I like that album a little bit more, but this has some excellent songs on it too, especially in the ... read more

Arter realising the title track hits harder than a truck and constantly playing it i finally decided to check out the whole album. For a debut it's nothing short of phenomenal, the vocals on display are some of my favourite not even in the genre but in music as a whole. I'd be lying if i said i haven't been listening to an excessive amount of karnivool

honestly this shit is really good, hell even great! These guys to me feel like a much more underappreciated version of TOOL, which kind of set my expectations, but regardless still a really great album!

The title track deserves that score, it's just soooooooooooo peak bro idek what to say anymore. I will say the album does kind of have a falling out towards the end of it, but it's still good

Themata is one of the best albums I have ever listened to. The instrumentals, vocals, and production are all immaculate. W Ian Kenny is a very talented vocalist, with a distinct style that perfectly fits Karnivool. What makes me admire a vocalist is the emotion they can express in song, and oh my GOD does Kenny do that well. His singing in the title track genuinely gives chills.

An end of an era for Karnivool and music in general. This album is incredible. It combines Nu and Prog metal incredibly and is really groovy and really fucking heavy at times. This album is really close to me as I have a lot f memories of it growing up. There's not much else to say besides it being one of my personal favorite albums of all time. Fucking incredible.
