Start a War is an awesome release from Static-X. I appreciate how it kept the melodic vocals from Shadow Zone. The instrumentals are heavy and catchy, something Static-X has consistently been good at, the production is great, and what I enjoy most is the cool blend of screaming and melodic singing. Good examples of that mix are Start it Off, (also my favorite song on the album), Just in Case, and Pieces.

Seventeen Seconds is boring, with bland, repetitive instrumentals, and mediocre vocals/lyrics that make the 35-minute listen last an eternity. Usually, I’d write more, but I don’t have much to say about Seventeen Seconds. It’s that unremarkable.
50 Song Memoir is an awesome idea perfectly executed; a musical memoir dedicated to 50 years of Merritt’s life. I genuinely have no criticisms of this album. I love everything about 50 Song Memoir, from the lyrics to the vocals to the instrumentals and to the production.
This is surely a favorite album from them :)
(Somewhat irrelevant, but one notable thing I enjoy is that I hear a resemblance to every other album from The Magnetic Fields in 50 Song Memoir.)
In Shadow Zone, Static-X introduces melodic vocals and does a fucking AWESOME job at it. Some examples are So, Invincible, All in Wait, and New Pain. This works really well with Static-X’s heavy, catchy instrumentals, and Wayne Static’s singing style.
In my opinion, this is a big step-up from Machine, which struggled with repetition, like Wisconsin Death Trip. And with Shadow Zone, it feels like the band is learning how to make songs without Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V, which is great!
