This is one of the worst industrial rock albums I’ve ever heard, and possibly one of the worst I’ve ever heard in general. It has aged like milk or bread sitting in its bag. The lyrics are pure torture and it makes Falling In Reverse look like the Beatles in comparison.
Mindless Self Indulgence is not my favorite band of all time thier Frankenstein Girls Will Seem Strangely Sexy that was an extremely discusting and terrible album in every aspect. "If" seems to be like a more polished version of that album but without elements that make Frankenstein Girls Will Seem Strangely Sexy so awful. The vocals work with this album a lot better not being as annoying as on the Frankenstein record. The production also seems to have a lot more flavor and combine ... read more
Guilty pleasure music at its finest.
Iffy lyrics and content like you would expect from an MSI album, but I would be lying if I said this wasn't a damn good album. I've always loved a ton of the tracks off of this album, and it's interesting that I'm just now doing a full listen of it (although I had heard probably 80 percent of these tracks beforehand).
This album is a bit more cleaned up than some of their other projects. It's a lot less messy and I definitely see ... read more
After 'You'll Rebel to Anything' grew on me, I thought checking out the album that came after it would help with my hunger for music that's just dumb, stupid, and dumb stupid fun. And 'If' did exactly that! Clocking in at 45 minutes, they did a good job preventing the album from dragging (and here I was, thinking this album was going to drag!)
Instrumentally, MSI's creativity shines as much as it did on their predecessor, they're still capable of putting ... read more
Just want to remind everyone this album is the one where they "toned it down" according to people who like this band.
EDIT: Some more detailed thoughts on the album. I actually do like the instrumentals, they can be pretty catchy and have pretty damn fun melodies, but the lyrics on this album just do not land and are way more obnoxious than actually y'know... funny. It's also bloated as hell so any of the good moments instrumentally just kind of blend together into samey sounding ... read more
I am in an absolutely shitty mood, and this album didn't help one bit.
There are some awesome songs here that maybe I would come back to, but part of the aesthetic and the absolutely thin and neutral PRODUCTION makes me want to rip my fucking hair out. This sounds slightly dated.
And most of the songs are great on paper, but they're so thin. And they're just so same-y, not that there's anything wrong. But I just don't care.
Jimmy does have a good voice, I'll give him that.
But I would never ... read more
The opener is actually great musically, every other song seems like was made in 10 minutes. This whole album is a filler of things barely counting as songs because the songwriting is so confusing. Rarely it does have some good ideas, exectued awfully every single time. You won't find good lyrics here also.
One of the worst albums I've heard so far
Hoooolllyyyy shhhiiiittt! This was sooo fun to listen to and have a jam too! I know I'm a minority for still liking this type of music but people like 100 gecs, so I'm sure they would like this. The lyrics are fucking stupid and dumb but the production really compliments it and makes it "enjoyable". Overall, this is just fun music from 2008 that may have not aged well with time but definitely has the most interesting personality.
Favorites: Never Wanted To Dance, Evening Wear, Lights ... read more
Fuck you Brad
In all seriousness though, I genuinely really do enjoy the music on this album. Yeah, Jimmy is an absolutely horrible human being, and yeah, it hasn't aged well in the slightest but this is genuinely one of my all-time favorite albums, and I want to at least put some light on its positives.
For starters, lets talk about the elephant in the room. Since Brad left his review of this album (I just wanna preface this by saying that I do enjoy brads content and respect him as a ... read more
i actually really like the songwriting but the lyrics dont help the tracks stand out. at least it was extremely fun.
yeah this is fucking abysmal too, i hate this with a passion, it sounds like if someone tried being 2005 nine inch nails, while trying to sound like ALL or the descendents, not in a good way, in a bad way, this is dogshit music, and the only real highlight is the solo on lights out.
This album is Dinosaurchestra but for scene kids. And I absolutely love the scene aesthetic. My biggest complaint is that it's too long. I listened to albums way longer than 45 minutes, but this type of music would just work better if it was a few minutes shorter. One thing I have to praise MSI for is the amazing songwriting. These songs are just so catchy. Even the infamous Panty Shot gets stuck in my head sometimes (though I'm not proud of it because of the at least questionable ... read more
[OKAY. HEAR ME OUT. #4]
So, seems like people really, REALLY don't like Mindless Self Indulgence, but I really liked their last effort, You'll Rebel To Anything a LOT, so I hope they're not a one-album wonder and only made one thing worth listening, but it seems people hate this a lot more than YRTA, so... I'm a bit more cautious on listening. But I'm still optimistic since I loved their last one.
Never Wanted To Dance is exactly what I'd expect from SMI at this point, and I'm sorry, it kicks ... read more
Seperate the art from the artist yk
Anyways, I love this album. Jimmys voice fits msi's style so well and this record is just so fun to listen to. The lyrics are prettyyyyy bad but imo the catchiness of the songs make up 4 it.
Faves: pay for it, get it up, due, on it, never wanted to dance, lights out, evening wear
Least faves: issues, bomb this track
(Btw never wanted to dance is mid and one of the worst and weakest songs on this album)
Best msi album (in my opinion at least, this album also helped me cope with the death of my father so that might be apart of the reason my rating is so high) though it’s definitely more radio friendly it still has that edginess that you expect from msi, all of the tracks have some good element and are also very danceable, this album also still apeals to msi fans while also apealing to a larger ... read more
MSI has and always will be one of the most inspiring and influential bands i have ever came across, especially with this release. IF by Mindless Self Indulgence will always be considered the pinnacle of Industrial Rock, with tracks like Get It Up and Animal being one of — if not — the best songs of the last century.
Jimmy Urine is one of the most brilliant musicians in our life-time. We are truly lucky and blessed to live in the same time period as him and get to experience his ... read more
The second best... yikes. This sucks! A lot! The beginning was "ok" but it quickly fell apart, and became just bleh to listen to.
So many bangers. Sad that Jimmy sucks but this album is great. Bro sounds like Deku at the beginning of Get It Up.
