A pretty unremarkable alternative rock record, "See a Little light" is cute and catchy, but everything else here washes over with little to no impact. Just gets lost in the sea of average 90's alternative.
These songs are all lacking something with the exception of standouts, See A Little Light, and a couple of others; it's too derivative of Husker Du and stuck in a place of safe and formulaic that lacks the excitement his earlier projects had.
The debut solo LP takes a deliberately different approach from Husker Du but is saturated with lyrics about moving on from the breakup and opening up about his own inner turmoil. The folk elements blended with the rock serve as a pre-cursor to the early 90's alt trends that would take hold. Several songs stood out for me, but overall this is a consistently fulfilling, unburdened and passionate piece of work. Key Tracks: 2, 4, 5, 8.
